I NEED TO VENT

I have this friend (not my best friend but more of someone I associate with) that feels the freaking need to make comments about how much I am spending on my nursery, stroller, etc.

Yesterday evening she asked me what kind of stroller I am getting and I told her the Iglesenia 2007 Carriage then she replied by saying I will never pay that much on a stroller and moreover I think it is a waste and it is only for show.

Then she went on to talk about how she never spends alot of money unimportant things such as a nursery, clothing, and strollers for my kids. I know that she is entitled to her opinions but why the heck does she feels the need to lecture me about the things that I am doing for my child.

I never try to push my theories or should I say ideas on anyone because I feel that everyone should be entitled to what they want to do.

However, I was so freaking mad that DH said I should tell her next time she comes out of her face that it is our money and it is our first child and we will do whatever the heck we want. We are not walking from door to door shaking a cup for collection to buy whatever we want.

Do you know of anyone who is always giving advice and also preaching to you for no darn reason at all?

fortunately for me, nobody has pushed their opinions on me-yet! How frustrating for you though. Some people just have no clue, ya know!

I hate people like that. I have someone at work...I have referred to her as the "know-it-all" on here a few times who always has something to say. When she found out which crib we got she immediately came out with, "Oh what a waste of money...you could have gotten one at BRU for $200 instead." Well that is ture, but that is not the crib I liked, and no one asked you to pay for it so S T F U! When we told her that we got the Peg Perego PP highchair she's like..."why would you spend that much on a highchair?" Whatever....kick em in the shins....

I would say to her "Well I am glad I didn't ask your opinion on it!!!" that should shut her up!

That doesn't sound very fair... not to mention she is asking you!! It's not like you are calling her up and saying "Guess how much money I am spending on this this and this!" I would try and let it roll off your back. It isn't going to change your views on what you have chosen anyway. Next time she says something, I would simply say "Well, I respect you for the choices you have made with your children, this is my first and I would appreciate the same courtesy. I really don't feel it is fair to judge me."

That's ridiculous!! Sounds like jealousy to me!

I've had that happen to me before - I was buying DH a rather expensive watch after we got engaged and out of nowhere a friend told me she didn't think I should buy it, that it was just a status symbol blah blah blah - and I flipped out on her for being rude and hypocritical.

Everyone thinks they have a right to judge.

Sounds like she is jealous. This is just the start of unwanted opinions from people. They will offer unsolicited advice from how much money you spend to how you phyiscally look while being pregnant and your childrearing choices. It is like having a baby gives people the right to be as rude as possible.

Could she be doing it to be helpful?
What I mean by helpful is I think everyone on Parenting wished they listened in hindsight to some of the BTDT mom's advice about the stuff we *needed* because it was our first baby (for example, I needed a new monitor when my sister had one that was 2 years old??)

It does sounds more like she's getting more enjoyment out of judging you & putting you down than anything else (which BTW is utterly ridiculous over the higest rated high chair that is one the EASIEST ones to fold & store away).

Some people think everyting is a waste of money - I've heard people say that about Bellini cribs. They start at $700 but in the end one mom I know had the crib she wanted & when she was done sold the crib for $350 because it was a Bellini.

I'd go with Rachee's "I'm glad I didn't ask for your opinion" & if that doesn't work opt for MrsMBV's kick'em in the shins approach. If none of that works throw "Yes but I care about quality" into the mix.

It sounds like she is Jealous!!!!! Like it bothers her that you actually HAVE the money to spend on the things that you LIKE.... It sounds like she is the only one that was able to spend that much money on her child. IGNORE IT!!!!!!!!

Somepepole are not happy unelss they make other people unhappy... Do you have to associate with her that much, if not I would definetly limit it.

If you are bothered by her comments and she's your friend I think you need to address it. Otherwise you get that built up resentment. Just say something. She probably doesn't realize how it effects you. You don't have to be super confrontational and rude to get your point across and put a stop to it.

I'm sorry people need to tell you exactly what is on their mind, some people have no tact and there's nothing we can do. I would just walk away next time she says anything!
