Moving Up

Has anyone seen that shown on TLC Moving Up? It's when people go back to their old houses and see what the new owners did. I love this show!

But it made me think...would I want to go back and see our old house? Hmm...

Would you?

Re: Moving Up

Love this show too and I would totally want to go back and see my old house. (But I'm nosey like that LOL)

I live next door to the apartment I lived in for 6 years...I finally got to go back in it a couple of weeks ago - my curiosity was killing me! It definitaly wasn't "my apartment" anymore...but it was fun to see.

Re: Moving Up

I totally would not want to see it and have to take in a number of transformations at once. We're currently selling our old place, and our best friends live right next door. I'm OK knowing that I will see incremental changes - - but I don't think I could handle a complete overhaul in one shot.

Re: Moving Up

I have nightmares about what was done to my parents home after we sold it

so no- I don't want to go back ever

I'm sure it looks fine- but I just want to leave it in my memories

I used to think the same thing - but as the years pass the memories become more and more detached from the actual house itself.

At this point I would LOVE to go back and see the house I grew up in. What's weird is that my co-workers and I were just talking about the house we grew up in over lunch and I said I would love to see my old house. I will be in kings park this weekend - maybe i will do a drive by!

it's only been a few months

Yeah - it's been 9 years since my father died and 8 since my mom sold the house. It took me a long long time to get to this point!

The furniture thing would creep me out too. I think that I wouldnt mind seeing it now because it's got to be completely different from when i lived there - and I would love to see what they've done with it!

Re: Moving Up

I guess I'm an "insensitive guy", but to me, a house is a pile of wood that keeps me warm and dry. I have no desire to see any previous houses I've lived in, and wouldn't let a previous owner see the house they sold me. It's my house now, not yours, and I'll do what I like to my house. I've seen the show, and it bothers me for those reasons. If you don't want people to change "your" house, then don't sell it.

Re: Moving Up

I noticed a lot of these episodes are in the tri-state area, in the beginning of the week or the end of last week they had a couple from Huntington Station.

It also makes me think of how much work put into their homes that are just literally thrown away.

Poeple put so much money into selling too. It proved my husbands point that people come in and change everything to suite them regarless of the paint, etc.

There was an episode where a woman said that she was going to leave the stain glass window because the ne owners commented on how they liked it. When interviewed , the couple said that it had to go..it wasn't them.

I love that show.

Re: Moving Up

We went to see a house that was on that show, they did some crazy things to it, I didn't see the show the house was on, but the owners must have thought it was crazy!

Re: Moving Up

I watch this all the time.

I think I'd want to go on it ( as the person buying the first home, not selling a home), just so when the show aired, I could see what the people whole sold me their home did in the in next one.

( Did they paint the bedroom lavender again?!)
