I just had a chat with my dh (can you tell its totally weighing on my mind) - I told him I only want my mom here 2 or 3 days and then I want alone time. We will ask for help when we need it. I told him his mom can stay here with him and my mom while I'm in the hospital if that's what he wants to do, and they both can be home when I get home from the hospital, but she can not sleep over or come every day while my mother is here.

He seems to understand, he just doesn't know how to tell her.

why not ask her to stay the 3rd week? Dh can do it very diplomatically: it's going to be overwhelming at firsdt, do you mind coming a week or two later when we will probably need a lot more help?
