PLEASE HELP ME!!!

I am hiding cause I'm embarrased and I am sooo upset.... I have a really bad phobia about vitamins... I dont know where it comes from, but I do! Anyway, I am 10 weeks preggo and I probably have taken a total of 5 prenatals... I've tried chewable... I just cant do it! My husband makes me feel like I'm killing the baby or starving it to death. I'm so upset about this... I'm gonna try again to take them... do you all think that I am harming the baby???
Please be honest!! And please dont suggest flinstones or whatever, honestly, its ANY type of vitamin or pill.... TIA!

Re: PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Its ok they are to suppliment. You should try something. Maybe someone makes something drinkable. Just eat healthy to get your vitamins and you will be ok. I have no fear of vitamins but I constantly forget. Im bad that way and I have 2 1/2 healthy kids.

Re: PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Do you think maybe you could take a liquid vitamin? I dont even know if they sell those but talk to your dr about it - its REALLY important to take prenatals. The folic acid alone helps prevent things like spina bifida. Think about it this way - its only temporary - you only have to take them while PG and it can really harm your baby if you dont. Don't worry about it! I didn't take pre natal vitamins for more than 2 weeks because I couldn't handle the iron in them...I had a very healthy 7 lb 14 oz baby who is now totally thriving. My midwife told me that pre-natals are totally self prescribed and that as long as you eat a balanced diet you will be absolutely fine.

agreed! and later in the pg if your iron is low like mine you HAVE to take iron pills, remember its for the baby, that should be your incentive.

I dont think eating alone will provide you with all the required nutrients you and your baby need.

I have a fear of needles- I just found out I have gestational diabetes and I fight with myself to prick myself 4times a day to check my sugar- but I sucked it up and keep reminding myself its for the baby. I hesitate and hestitate but I do it, good luck I know you can do it.
how about if you chopped it up and put it in water and drank it fast like that?

Re: PLEASE HELP ME!!!

I took Flinstones vitamins during my pregnancy. I wouldn't worry, you'll suffer from not havnig the vitamins before the baby does. The baby gets what it needs then you.

If you really have that much of a problem, then you should just make extra extra sure that you eat an excellent diet- lots of fruits and veggies and whole grains. A prenatal is meant to supplement. ESPECIALLY though, make sure you're getting enough folic acid.

I am being honest with you...I do think its important to take your vitamins whether it be prenatal, flintstones, or liquid. I would consult your dr immediately about your concerns.

Re: PLEASE HELP ME!!!

I agree with everyone about consulting with your doctor about other options. I don't know if you will harm your baby by not taking prenatals, but the prenatals are used as a preventative measure and promote optimal growth for the fetus. There are specific things in most prenatals that you may be able to get from other sources, such as folic acid, calcium, and in some cases, the omega-3 fatty acids. Is it something about the actual vitamin pills itself that concern you (such as ingredients) or is it a fear of swallowing any pill maybe? What is the specific phobia with the vitamins?

Re: PLEASE HELP ME!!!

I didn't take my prenatals for much of my pregnancy because they made me so sick. I had morning sickness through 26 weeks and they made them so much worse.

I would think about children's chewable vitamins --- or speak with your doc about liquid vitamisn.

Also I read one that if you can't tolerate the vitamins to make sure you have at least one bowl of cereal a day because they are fortified with a lot of the stuff that is in vitamins.

Re: PLEASE HELP ME!!!

I couldn't stomach my prenatals and my midwives told me to just take folic acid. I asked if I should take a women's mult-vitamin and was told that they may have things in them that my body shouldn't have during pregnancy.

I think folic acid is one of the most important things to take.
