Ok - Here are some camera tips...

ALL of your babies are absolutley adorable and the pictures are very cute, but I'm just thinking you guys may need a little help in the photography department. So please don't take this the wrong way. Here are some tips for taking better pictures of your babies:

1 - Most pictures of a baby are taken from the mom's height - from above. You're much better off if you could take the photo at the same level as the baby. Squat down or sit down next to him. This will eliminate the squished baby look, triple chin look.

A good picture for newborns is to put them on the couch, sit on the floor. They will usually settle down & turn their head to the side - that's your shot...or put a white blanket in their car seat and lay them in that. Put the car seat on a kitchen table & snap away. Most pictures of people holding the baby up don't come out very well since a newborn has no muscle control. Even if you can get a picture of the baby laying on is back in someone's hands - it will relax the baby more. Over the shoulders is also a good option since the babies' entire body is supported.

2 - Try to eliminate the flash if possible - use natural light. Take your baby outside on a sunny or overcast day for photos. Overcast is better because they won't squint in the sun. Put them by a window, turn on lights - you won't get the stunned look.

3 - Zoom in. Take a picture of your baby closer. Crop, crop, crop..

4 - Take pictures of feet, hands...just for posterity. One of my favorite pictures is of just my son's feet.

If I think of anymore I'll let you know. I'll add my images as examples in a second. Zoomed in & outside so her eyes are more open, over the shoulder, another zoomed in

Those are some great shots. Are they all digitals??

I totally agree about the natural light. I HATE the flash.

My problem is, I haven't figured out how to play around with the f-stop on my camera yet. It makes all the difference. I miss my manual camera.

It's a mix - most are from my nikon n60 (not digital) - but honestly - I dont 'see a difference from the Nikon N60 to my Nikon D70.

For all I seem to know about photography - I need to take a class on lighting - that's why I shoot almost everything outdoors. I mainly use my camera as a point & shoot - which makes other people into photography ill that I have the digital SLR & don't use it the right way :)

Where are you on LI? We can hit a park one day if you want & I can practice on Jake.

Thanks for the tips. I have a good digital but beyond pointing and clicking I have no idea what to do with it.

We have tons of pics of Kevin but have yet to catc him when he's smiling.

I love the idea of taking the pics of hand, feet .... I'll have to work on that.

Do you press on the button halfway until the camera focuses? I usually do that with my camera and it works.
