My cousin's DH used to think we were all nuts....It was at the height of big stories like the shootings on the LIRR, Amy and Joey...things that really gave LI a bad rap

I think that's just the north shore perception.
I think there is a very big difference with how people view the north shore vs. south shore and nassau vs. suffolk.
When I first moved here that became immediately apparent to me. Fair or not.
I don't think that is the case at all. Nobody I have talked to that is not from here didn't know the north shore from a hole in the wall. They just had misconceptions as Long Island in its entirety
