Your opinion on this...
Ok, DH tells me that SIL told his mother "thank god Diane didnt choose the name Nicholas for her baby because that's what I want to name my 1st born son"
Now, Nicholas is DH's name aka her brother's name.
Is this weird?
Nevermind the fact that she is 21 years old with a boyfriend of like 3 months.

No- not weird. I always LOVED my brother's name and would have used it if they weren't going to (of course, I'd ASK first).
Granted, I didn't plan this as early as 21- that might be a bit strange.

yeah, I don't think I'd want to name my son the same name as my brother...but to each is own! Not to mention, she is young and she probably won't use the name anyway!

what? people don't own names and they can't claim it as theirs. i find it bizarre especailly coming from someone who is not married or engaged.

DH wants to name a future son his brother's name (and he's alive and healthy, so it's not like it's in memory of him). Not going to happen, only because I don't like the name, but otherwise, I'd consider it.
As long as you don't want to name a future son after your DH, I guess it's not too weird

I picked my boy's name at 16, and I'll probably use it when the time comes if I have a boy. Maybe that's weird...maybe I'm weird, but that's nothing new for me.  My mom picked my name when she was in highschool too.
I don't really think it's weird, but I also happen to really like the name Nicholas so I can't blame her for wanting it.

I think at that age, she doesn't realize what she is saying. And like another said - she will most likely change her mind. Or her husband may have a say. Most of the boy names I dreamed of naming my son, were nixed by DH

I don't think it’s too weird to love a name at a young age. It's kind of up there with fantasizing about your wedding since a young age.

It's not weird.
DH is a Jr. DS is a III and DH's father is deceased. One of DH's looney cousins named her son Christopher in October for her deceased uncle. Uh. Ok. '
In the long run it really doesn't matter. My mom is named Mary and there are like 4 other Marys in the family in her generation.

Well I guess the feeling is mixed. Some think its strange and others dont. I jsut cant see naming my baby the same name as my sibling because its in the immediate family.
Oh and trust me, she is weird... she wont forget.

i don't think its that weird. I have 2 brothers and LOVE both their names. Nicholas and Paul (both my brothers were named after my grandfathers) but DH wants his name if we have a boy otherwise i might consider going that route because i do like the names.

I see your point - my sister and MIL have a similar name and I was always tempted to use a form of it (so if it was a girl she would be named after her grandmother) but I feared what my sister's reaction would be. So I guess I can see both points.
