Re: your DH reaction to...

Mine wasn't shocked, in fact I think he kinda expected that I at least try... which, good thing, was also my feeling! But of course he'd be supportive either way.

I don't get why anyone would be shocked about BFing, yet I've encountered people who are surprised I'm doing it Chat Icon

Re: your DH reaction to...

Mine was totally expecting that I would try. My SIL did with twins, so she set the bar pretty high for the rest of the women in the family Chat Icon .

Re: your DH reaction to...

My DH is totally freaked out about it, and I think it will be gard for me to try without him being comfortable. I am so on the fence, and he just wants me to FFChat Icon

Re: your DH reaction to...

I guess my DH reacted just the opposite - he was very happy. We have a very good family friend who is a nutritionist/chiropracter and into holistic healing and vitamins. He is a proponent of BF and explained to my DH why it was so beneficial in his opinion. We both just hope that it works when we try and have decided to supplement with formula if necessary.

Re: your DH reaction to...

He's supportive since it's something I want to try. He is a little concerned though, that I don't push myself too hard and stress myself out over it if it proves to be too much for me, though.

He was so supportive. He new I wanted to do it and then he went to the class with me. He said he was very proud of me and he helped me put the pump together when I was trying to figure it out.
He was supportive the whole year I BF.

Re: your DH reaction to...

He hasn't really had a reaction. I guess that means he expected it and therefore is not surprised so he has nothing to say, but it's not something we've discussed at length.

He's all for it. Plus he loves the idea of saving $$ on formula.

Mine was not surprised at all, and I think he would prefer it slightly, given the health benefits.

Re: your DH reaction to...

I was seriously on the fence about it myself, but my DH insisted that I at least try.

I myself have a love/hate relationship with BF and when DD#2 was like 2 weeks old I was dying to stop. I was looking for DH to give me the green light, but he never did and I'm glad because I would have totally ended it. Now we're going strong at almost 12 weeks. I did say, however, I don't think I want to BF my 3rd baby (if and when) and he replied, "Then we won't have a 3rd baby." Chat Icon

I believe it's really important to have a supportive DH if you want BF to succeed.

Re: your DH reaction to...

DH and I discussed this last night and he was surprised when I said I really didn't want to.

I told him my reservations about it and how I am totally freaked out by the concept of bringing something that has been a sexual part of my life for so long into a nuturing aspect.....

He looked at me like I had 12 heads and said, "but we'll save so much on formula", I wanted to kill him.

Re: your DH reaction to...

I would be upset with my DH if he wasn't supportive of my decision to breast feed, but I think he expects me to do it.

Yeah. Mine b!tched a little, but he really had no say.

And not to burst any bubbles, but you don't save THAT much by BFing. If you are going to pump, a pump alone is $300+, plus storage for the BM, and bottles.

A can of powdered formula lasts a week and it is $23 and if you use generic $11-13. Yeah, it is more, but it isn't THAT much more. Plus you can get formula checks, use gc's to BRU and BBB and look for sales. My DS uses Gentlease (cheapest I've found it is $23.49) and I have never paid more than $11 for it.

ETA: I have NO problem with BFing, and will say that I never did it, but from what I have seen, this is the case. I hope I don't sound rude.Chat Icon

Well the pump I want is $150 and since I am going to be a SAHM, I wont need that many storage containers or bottles. I think I will save alot of money.

Re: your DH reaction to...

i bought a pump for250 and hope to use it for all the babies i have i have one child 18 months. but i figure if i have 3 kids i will get my monies worth. dh fully supported it becuase it saved money and she was getting my immunities and was healthy. she never got sick once in the 12 months i nursed her. also i bought the freezer containers and sterilized them after use so it didnt cost much. you can also freeze them in plastic bags. to say its not as cheap at formula is incorrect. if you ebf then its free.
