Yorkies or other dogs with Kidney Stones

Hi - I was wondering if anyone had Yorkies or any other dog that had kidney stones or recurrent bladder infections.

If so, how did you deal with it etc.?

Thank you.

Re: Yorkies or other dogs with Kidney Stones

My pug had recurring bladder infections and developed bladder stones, because of her diet. One night I noticed she was going to the bathroom on the kitchen floor and there was a blood in the little urine she had released, so it appeared to me that she was having trouble walking, so I brought her to the emergency vet and they took an X-ray and said she would need to go immediate surgery in the morning, she had a stone the size of a golf ball and if she even tried to pass it she would die. Anyway, I took her the regular vet in the morning and they performed the surgery. She was in the hospital for about 4 days and came home very weak, but thank god she was ok. She doesn't get them that often anymore and I had to change her diet to this special food that only the vet sells. I hope your dog is ok and doesn't ever have to go through this.

Re: Yorkies or other dogs with Kidney Stones

Thank you very much for getting back to me - I have been a wreck for months. My dog has passed bladder stones 2x already. They just recently found the stones in the Kidney - they are small but are forming together, the specialist at LI Vet Specialists said she would never be able to pass them. The vet said we have to wait because there is no preventative by removing them, she is more concerned with the infections. UGH! It has been very frustrating.

Re: Yorkies or other dogs with Kidney Stones

My Bruno had to have 12 bladder stones removed after us finding blood in his urine.
The vet made us try UTI pills first but they didn't clear.
The stones were removed in February and they haven't come back since.
He is now on Royal Canin S/O dry food which is supposed to be better for his bladder.
The vet has taken quite a few urine samples and everything seems clear for the time being.
