YIKES!

My sister just told me in an email that I forgot about my parent's anniversary.

And it was last Wednesday! Chat Icon

I hate it when I pull crap like that. It really, really aggrevates me because it shouldn't happen. My brain has been absolute jello trying to deal with all this house buying crap.... and more importantly the co-op selling BS.

Add that on to all the extra DJing I am doing right now to save cash for the house. I am pulling in 70 hour work weeks for the past month.

Its so bad right now I would even forget to take a shyt if my stomach didn't start acting funny.

My sister said my mom's bday is Sunday which I knew about that. But the anniversary always seems to slip me by.

I am not even sure if I will have time on Sunday to head over to my mom's house because I have another open house for the co-op advertised in the paper.

I asked them if they wanted to go out to dinner on me Sunday night. Lets see what happens.

I feel like SUCH crap right now. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Maybe you should set the dates on your computer or cell phone so it actually beeps and lets you know the day before or that day. That always helps me since sometimes I forget to look at the calender but I use my phone and computer every single day.

Yeah I have to start doing this. I have gotten burned too many times. I forgot my parent's anniversary two years ago! Chat Icon It just always seems to avoid me.

I don't keep a written calendar so I have to it in my outlook calendar. I am entering in all the important dates now.

But with my luck.. i'll change jobs and forget to enter it in the new calendar at the new job and forget it again!

God I am so annoyed at myself.

that $ucks, Rich Chat Icon

I'm the same way about stuff like that- i forget EVERYTHING. hence, the reason i write stuff on my hands all the time Chat Icon Chat Icon

Honestly though- as busy as you are going to be on Sunday, i still think you should make every effort possible to get over there. (do they live far from you??). I feel like- if work were to call you in, and say it was an emergency- you'd be there in a minute... and i think you mom deserves just as much.. if not, more. (espcially to compensate for the anniversary slippage).

I hope this doesnt sound preachy... cause lawd knows i've missed Many important bdays/anniversaries for those close to me-- and i'll try to think of Anything to get out of having to drive to brooklyn to see my famly (just b/c i hate the drive, that is Chat Icon )... but i just think it would mean alot to your mom if she got to see you Chat Icon

Re: YIKES!

They aren't far.... so I will make my way over there at some point on Sunday night after my open house.

But I am not sure if they will want to do dinner since they like to eat early. 7pm may be too late for them... but we'll see.

Re: YIKES!

i wouldnt stress not being able to take them to dinner-- maybe you could do something really thoughtful for her with the pics... aside from what you're doing w/ the wedding pics (ok, that didnt make much sense... but i was jsut trying to think of a thoughtful gift Chat Icon )

is your mom the type to get upset by you forgetting though?

my mom totally is... but DHs mom couldnt care less, so that situation would affect both of them differently Chat Icon

Don't be so hard on yourself...Mom's and Dad's tend to forgive those things. I'm sure they understand how busy you've been and how much pressure you're under. I'm sure if you **** up a little, all will be forgivenChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I don't even attempt to remember anyone's anniversary and I don't expect people to remember mine. Birthdays are hard enough to keep up with.
But maybe that's because my parents are divorced so it was never something I thought to remember. Chat Icon
I am sure your mom will understand with how hard you have benn working.

Re: YIKES!

MY DH uses excite.com for his e-mail and it comes with a reminder page. IT lists all of the events coming up in the next two weeks. He said every since he started using that he has never forgotten anything.

Every year I get a new calendar in Nov and transpose all of the important dates from the previous year. IT's right on my fridge and I make myself look at it when I go to make my lunch in the a.m.

It happens to the best of us. Don't let it get to you. Just explain to them what happend. They're your parents. They'll understand.

Re: YIKES!

Thanks for the encouraging words everyone.

Hopefully i'll get some of my sanity back soon. I sign the contracts for the house tomorrow.

But I won't get my sanity truly back until I have signed contracts for the co-op i am selling. I know the co-op will sell... its very desireable. I might have one pending offer from a senior citizen couple. And another woman is coming over tomorrow to look at it for a second time with her father (she was over last Monday). So hopefully I will have the co-op settled soon.

But the thought of carrying two mortgages for an extended period of time has me a little razzled. So I won't be truly "comfortable" until I have that signed contract along with a buyer's deposit.

Re: YIKES!

Sorry..I am sure they understand how crazy things are in your life. This is actually the first year I remembered my dad and stepmoms anniversary. It is this Friday. What a shock it is going to be to them when they receive the card i sent, actually remembering this year!!

Don't feel too bad.... I'm sure they'll understand what you're going through.

We forgot my ILs anniversary this year also. They were on vacation during their anniversary and I remembered while they were gone, but completely forgot by the time they got back. It wasn't until my MIL said something that we realized we forgot. Chat Icon
