yet another dumb Q from me
i'm going to my gyno for my first prenatal checkup.....
wont she typically be my Dr throughout and deliver the baby?
(given my insurance situation pans out)

it entirely depends on the practice. Is she a solo doc or in a practice with other docs?
if she's a solo - you likely will see no one else and she'll deliver you.
if she's part of a group practice, you will see every doc in the practice at least once or twice - because you have no way of knowing who will be on call the date you deliver...

also, make sure that she's still an OB (those are the ones that do the deliveries). Many OBs drop that licensure and are just doing GYN (they can see you throughout the PG, just cant deliver the baby) because the malpractice insurance went through the roof this past summer.

ahhhhhhh ok thank you!
there are 4 female Dr.s at this office. Everyone i have met there is incredibly nice, so if it isnt *her* i'd probaby be ok with it being one of the other 3... just trying to make sense of it all. i believe she is still ob/gyn but ill dbl check

No matter what they plan on too, there is always a chance that your Dr. will be unavailable for one reason or another the day you deliver. I know that Dr. H was out of town the day I had G, and another friend who goes to the same practice could not get Dr. D b/c he was rushed into an emergency c-section for multiples.
So there is always a chance that it will be someone else.

Defiantly something to discuss with her at first apt. There are soo many different things that can arrise. Insurance/multi doc practice/ vacations.. My Doc didnt deliver my dd last pregnancy but he was my doctor the entire pregnancy.. just happened that my dd to decided to be born on a Jewish Holiday and my doc wasnt on that day, so covering doctor delivered her.
