Trump won and is the president. That is true.

Just like in 2000, though, Clinton received a higher share of the popular vote, so it is certainly misleading to argue that this is what a majority of Americans wanted; however, it doesn't really matter at this point. He will be our president for 4 years.

People have every right to be upset. This is not a typical election where we dislike the opposing party's policies. This is a man who turns on a dime, often within hours, who literally cannot control himself or handle any insult, who doles out insults like candy, who has never once neglected to back off a proposal (Ban all Muslims! No, just extreme vetting. Build a wall! Oh, it was actually a metaphorical wall, people know that. Repeal Obamacare! Actually, amend Obamacare). There are ample reasons to be scared.

I know people like that he isn't a politician, and I can see that appeal. I myself like what he said about term limits, and really only a non-politician could say that. But he's not a decent man. He doesn't feel obligated to do the very basic decent things, like not insult disabled people or veterans. And every person who voted for him legitimized that. Now he is our president, the face of our country. Of course many of us are going to feel like he doesn't represent us. This is very, very different from disagreeing on policy or politics. This is about basic humanity and decency versus none. Most of us have it; he doesn't. This is why we cannot get behind him, and no amount of scolding will change that.

However, with all of that, I believe that, since he did win, he deserves a window of time when we will watch and see what he does. I am not optimistic, but I will try to be fair.

And look, how many of you scolding the anti-Trump people were bothered when McConnell said the number 1 goal of the Republicans (in 2008) was to make Obama a one-term president? Not to dig our country out of debt or help children or any of the millions of things we needed, but to get power back. If you are mad about the Trump reactions but not about those comments, then you are truly blind. I was furious, and I would think it would be incredibly unfair to do this to any president, even Trump, before he served a single day.

If it was just a Republican America? I think most of us would say ok, let's see what happens. I remember being troubled but optimistic in 2004 when GWB won reelection. I didn't agree with many of his policies but he was a good man who cared about America. An America presided over by a reality tv star, a strongman (basically anyone who says : All your problems are due to that group over there. I am the only one who can fix it), who has terrible historical precedents (including, but not limited to Hitler)? It's just not the same.

Trump supporters, enjoy your victory. You, and he, really earned it. And I honestly do hope that we are all wrong and that he will be a good president. A win for him is now a win for us all. But for many of us, we are grieving, grieving a vision of America that we thought was better than this, an America we must acknowledge doesn't completely exist.

It really amazes me that everyone is claiming Trump a racist when Hillary is absolutely no better. She has called blacks super predators, went on a screaming rampage to a jewish person who worked for her, did not want to approve gay marriage when she was senator of NY, stood by her husband after multiple allegations of rape and assault and takes donations from countries that promote women as second class citizens, voted to build a wall and was adamantly against illegal immigrants. But because she changed her mind and started saying what her supporters wanted to hear, that is ok. So maybe instead of bashing Trump for sound bite that were taken from his speeches, we should be protesting against both the RNC and DNC for allowing these two to be our candidates.

Have you bothered to actually read the super predators quote in its context?

I actually am old enough to have remembered when she originally said it. I've also recently watched it and reread it. It is a racist comment , despite her backpedaling and bogus apology for it. Please don't try to make it out to be anything but that.

Clinton — in the midst of championing her husband’s 1994 crime legislation — did use the term "superpredator" when referring to "gangs of kids." She did not specifically label superpredators as African-American, but the context of her speech and her subsequent apology decades later suggests it was a reasonable inference.

I agree.

As a side note, I have no idea what being old enough to remember has anything to do with it. I was old enough as well. I voted for her husband.

Maybe you should reread the question posed. It has everything to do with it, since she asked if anyone bothered to read the "super predators" comment. Not only did I read it, I initially lived it. Sadly,I also voted for her husband. I was explaining that I remember it being a terrible comment when she said it then and it's still terrible. But let's not get off topic of what a racist, terrible comment it was. Or how it ends with " with no conscience, no empathy" and how "we have to bring them to heel".

Can I ask why specifically we are talking about Hillary Clinton? She is done. It's over. I supported neither HRC or Donnie so it's not about him versus her to me.

As far as trying to change the DNC and RNC, I think that makes a lot of sense. I blame the DNC for putting up the weakest candidate bc of party politics, elitism and corruption. They are a huge part of how this disaster came to pass. Things absolutely need to change within the parties and with the party system IMO. I think we need more choices than two.

Whether you can remember when it was said or not has no effect on what you think of the comment. I read it and remember it, and she has addressed this comment in later years. Trump hasn't addressed any of the racist and sexist things he has said. When that happens, I *might* be more open to whatever analogy you are trying to make.

Read the transcript, watch the video, whatever. My point is that quotes and phrases are pulled out or made to sound worse than they are and context is important.

The electoral college has spoken

The populous vote was extremely close and half of those who voted did NOT choose Trump

I pray he unites us....

This. The popular vote is only separated by like 50,000 votes. That's insane.

And doesn't the fact that you felt you had to hide your support say something? If you were so confident he was the right choice why hide?

That number continues to change by virtue of absentee ballots coming in. Last I read, she was ahead by nearly 2m in the popular vote. The "people have spoken" indeed Chat Icon A rural minority has spoken in a weighted system.

And that is EXACTLY why I told you I remember when it was initially said. Because it's not being taken out of context or phrases being pulled out or made to sound worse than what it was. The only phrases that were pulled out were by you when you forgot to include the rest of her comments which says "with no conscience, no empathy" and how "we have to bring them to heel." I guess it's only racist if you deem it so. Chat Icon

Hi. I deleted my account that night because I wasn't looking into getting into debates . Then the next day I decided it was important enough to discuss so I created a new account since I could not recover the old one.
