X-post: WWYD? Godparent question

My uncle and his wife are pregnant with their third baby (he has 5 kids from his former wife) and there is a great chance that they're going to ask DH and I to become this baby's godparents. While this is normally such an honor, I have a lot of problems with my uncle and things he has done to my grandparents, my mom, & his own kids.

So, I ask.....is there a way to politely say no to being a godparent?

Any advice is welcome...thanks!!

maybe you may want to ask you since you knows what a great person you are. he sees how you grew up. if may want his child to learn from you

I don't know....I guess it's not the baby's fault if he has caused some many problems with people. Sorry I wish I had adviceChat Icon

I know, you're right. But I feel because he caused so many problems, I wouldn't necessarily be in the baby's life.....and that's not right either. UGH.

You could say it's too great a responsibility that you are not comfortable taking on.
