x-post good vacuum for pet owners?
now that I have a cat- my old vacuum is just not cutting it
I have mainly hardwood floors
can anyone recommend a good vacuum- mine is not picking up the kitty litter- it launches it back at me- and it hurts!

I love my Dyson, but I know many girls on here have posted other models that work for less $$.
It's up to you as to what $$ you're willing to pay.
There was a thread on this a month or so ago with people posting reviews.

The purple dyson comes with 3-4 different attachments for animal hair pick up. Two for hard wood floors, 2 for carpets.
We have 50-50 hardwood/carpet in our house.
DH and I use our Dyson on the ceramic tile in the kitchen and hallway, it has attachments for stairs, for ceilings, etc.
Take one off the shelf and just play around with it and see if you like the feel of it. That's what we did and we thoroughly enjoy the functionality of it.

i have the dyson (no pets, though--just commenting on the vacuum itself) and love it- i find that it works well on bare floors, too.
i bought mine at BBB and used the 20% off coupon.
i was just in Target, and saw that they had a bunch of vacuums on sale, too.

I have the Dyson Animal and it's great - we have a combo of hardwood and area rugs. I have 2 cats with long hair and this thing picks up everything, including litter.

the litter is more the issue then the hair- I think I am going to check out this one!
we have the same- area rugs and hardwood! perfect!

I have the dyson ball for all floors. My whole house is wood or tile with the exception of 2 5x8 area rugs and it picks up all the dog hair (I have a boxer so it is short). DS never has hair on his pants from crawling after I vacuum, with the old one it was like I never vacuumed.
