I've actually psted this before as well, with not such an eloquent explanation...but I was told by the NICU when I was bringing DS home that NOTHING should be inside that car seat with baby that doesn't come with the car seat.
Instead of the bundle me, I bought this:
Carrier Cover
They make so many over the car seat covers that are nice and toasty. No need to stick stuff inside. You shouldn't even use those head supports!

This stinks cause I think the bundle me's look the best, I used one when I had my DD 6 yrs ago and never had any issues with it. I don't understand why the company doesn't fix it?

As to the 'why don't they fix it' issue? I don't know. If they're so very confident in it, I would think that testing it and getting manufacturer approval would help boost sales even further, right?
But, the cynical side of me says that they're making money hand over fist with it as is, so why bother? Until the demand for the item goes away, they have no real motivation to make changes.
The demand for shower cap style covers has increased, so they made one to answer the demand. Coincidence? I think not. It's up to us, the consumers, to speak up about it (with our wallets doing the most effective "speaking"). Don't buy them, if you already have one and can, return them to the stores. Word of mouth is our greatest tool in this.
Believe me, the aftermarket products are the biggest thorn in car seat advocate's sides because there is no regulation of them. 
The baby carrier linked by LaurenExp is fine, as is the other one linked by MrsH. Any type of "shower cap" style cover that only goes over the baby is acceptable to use. Nothing should go between the baby and the car seat or the baby and the harness. No added pillows, pads, harness covers, thick coats etc.
