Re: wwyd? (type of school)

I would check out both classrooms and if you can get approved by EI for the integrated I would go with that since there will still be positive role models from the typical children in that setting.

How does he deal with change? Its not like he's in 4th grade and all the cliques/friend circles are made. If you decide he would be better in another type of class after you sign him up, you can switch.

I would check w/ ped or EI to see if they can recomend something in your area.

Re: wwyd? (type of school)

Since there is not much eating done at pre school, I wouldnt worry too much about that aspect of his issues at all.

I would check out both if possible. I would think to say through EI but it might not be as fast paced as he needs either. I would see both and you will know if you observe a classroom which he would fit better in...

Re: wwyd? (type of school)

I would send him to a regular preschool. They only have snacks there so if he doesn't eat it's not a big deal.

He has a large vocabulary, and is an active toddler. I see no reason not to put him in a regular school IMO.

ETA: Jack has maybe 10-15 words and is going to a regular preschool in Sept. I think it will be great for him to learn there.

Re: wwyd? (type of school)

thanks ladies, i'm going to call my coordinator tomorrow and see what schools she knows.
i do know of 1 school that has an amazing integrated classroom (they offered me a job last yr but then i found out i was pg and couldn't accept), but i worry about him picking up behaviors (i know he can do this in a typical classroom too but it is more likely in an integrated one.)

don't they eat lunch in pre-k?

Pre-k is like 4 years old. You have a while Chat Icon Unless it's full day pre-school, they likely don't eat lunch.

I agree with Diana!

And you have at least another year before you worry about Pre-KChat Icon

i guess i ment preschool/nursery. i actually taught "pre-k" and they had a 2 yr. old, 3yr old and 4 y old room. but that was special ed. so i guess they labeled it differently Chat Icon . it was full day and they had 2 snacks and lunch. i guess i thought that this was the norm. i'm clueless, i have a lot to look into!

Re: wwyd? (type of school)

The 2 year old program that Jack is going to in September is two half days a week - for two hours each day.

Everything that I have looked at (unless in a daycare) has been the same as what Diana says. About 2hrs a day, 2 days a week
