WWYD? Pre-school related

The preschool I want to send DD to next year won't take kids until they're 2 years & 8 months old...so that would be March 2010 for DD. They run in sessions like a school district-- Fall, Winter, & Summer sessions.

Since DH is a teacher, he'd be home with DD next summer. So, would you start DD in March, have her go until late-June, then keep her out for the summer, send her back in September?

Or not start her until September 2010, so that she's not in the program for a few months, then home with daddy for a few months, then back to the program again?

It's a full-time program, if that matters...and you pay per session, so it's not like we'd lose out on $ b/c DH would keep her home for the summer.

Thanks!

Re: WWYD? Pre-school related

Personally I would keep her home til September if daycare or what not isn't an issue. I am a sahm and decided to keep DS home til he is 3. In sept he will start a 2 day 2 1/2 hr program. Imo she would benefit more from being home with dad for the summer than having those few xtra mos in school. And (I don't knock anyone who feels differently) but I feel they will be in school for avery long time so why rush it......

Thank you. Just wanted to clarify, she's definitely going to stay home with Daddy in the summer...I'm just trying to figure out whether to start her in March, have her go until late-June, and then not go back to preschool until Sept. b/c she'll be home with her daddy for the summer.

Thank you! Chat Icon

When you say full time, is it M-F from 9-2:30 (just using these times as an example) or is 2 or 3 full days?

If it is M-F then I would wait because that is a lot for a 2.5 year old, I think. If it was 2 or 3 full days then I would do it. It will help prep her for next year if you plan on putting her in fulltime M-F.

It is M-F, 8am-4pm. However, I'm off on Fridays as of now, so I'd keep her home with me (since hopefully there will be another baby by next summer) on Fridays.

I'm definitely leaning towards waiting until Sept., but am not 100%. You're right, that does sound like a lot for that young.

For that long of a day for that many hours, I'd definitely wait till she's 3! Chat Icon
