WWYD re: car seats for an older child
DDs carseat goes up to 40lbs....shes about 37lbs on a good day now...shes not quite 40 inches but almost there. i see now they have car seats with the 5 point harness that go up to 65lbs.
she is almost 4.5 (will be in July) I am guessing the rate she gains weight she will hit 40lbs this fall...maybe sooner who knows!
would you get a carset with a 5 point harness that goes up to 65lbs or just switch the current carset you have to the high back booster that it converts to?
keep in mind she hasnt hit any requirement yet other than being 4 years old...i am guessing she wont hit the weight until closer to 5.

I'd get something like the Graco Nautilus that is 5-pt harness that converts to high-back booster, and then backless booster.

Re: WWYD re: car seats for an older child
I would just wait and see how long she can stay in her current seat. it maybe be longer than you think.
DS had been using a high back booster alot now, he is 4yo but he is 48lbs and 44in. The only thing I dont like about the plain booster is that it doesnt provide alot of support when he falls asleep. We have a Nautilus in the other car, so if we take a long car ride I use that instead. But I dont think I would spend the money on another car seat honestly, when most people in my life have changed their kids to boosters between 4 and 5 anyway.

I agree with this. I personally would feel safer with the 5 point for as long as possible even if it ment spending a little more money.

We are about to switch DS to the Nautilus in the next few months. We are keeping him in the 5 point harness as long as possible and I think 65 pounds good to me. He will be 5 in August and is 44 pounds and 44 inches. His current seat goes to 50 pounds.

her current seat does convert to the high back booster. i will have to wait and see how long it takes her to get to 40lbs and go from there. its taken are a year to put on 2 lbs so i could be worrying over nothing too early!

Re: WWYD re: car seats for an older child
I asked a simlar question yesterday except DD is 25 months and 38 lbs. her current carseat for the Nanny only goes up to 40lbs.
I think I'm going with the Graco nautilus- since it's a carseat up to 65lbs, then a high back booster with 5 pt harnes and then a regular booster.

Re: WWYD re: car seats for an older child
DS old seat went up to 40 pounds, he was almost 4. EVERYONE else got him a booster, I got a 5 point harness and he fights me ALL the time. He is good in the booster - doesn't get up. He knows if he does he gets 2 time outs on the spot, no questions asked.
That being said, I still feel safer in the harness and got a seat that converts. He's 4 1/2 and 44 pounds so he has a way to go but I don't think we'll make it.
