WWYD FLU RELATED
I need some advice. My In laws were coming in this weekend to see DS. It is also the first time they would be seeing our new home. I noticed that SIL just had the flu, starting date was Saturday. Her fiance is also coming and hasn't had the flu shot and hasn't contracted the flu yet. They are all staying in our house. DS is 11 months and didn't get the flu shot. I called to get it last week and his Pediatrician didn't have any. His Pediatrician said they shouldn't come. We don't have the best relationship so I am nervous to tell them they can't come. Also, this is our big christmas and DS's first birthday celebration. Would you tell them they couldn't come? My MIL is not an understanding person and will most likely say to forget it if we say SIL can't come.
ETA, I thought another option might be to go to their home (SIL doesn't live there) and visit and then make a point to see SIL on our way back out of town at a public place for breakfast...Thoughts?

WWYD FLU RELATED
I'm so laid back with a lot of things except when it comes to stomach virus and flu. I work FT and if DS or myself come down with it, it is not easy to just stay home.
If your MIL is going to make a stink about you not wanting them to come because they may be contagious, I would flat out lie and say that you have come down with the flu and need to cancel.
I don't think its the right thing - having to lie, but if you know they won't be the least bit understanding you just have to do what is best for your DS.

Have DH call them and say, "Hey can u guys come next weekend? I think we are all coming down w/ the flu?"
I have no guts so I would probably lie.

Sorry, I would be a no too- I would make dh call and tell them though and then I would blame the pediatrician
"the pediatrician said that ds can not be around anyone displaying flu symptoms for 2 weeks after"
good luck

Re: WWYD FLU RELATED
I like your second option. The flu is no joke this year. I'd be surprised if your SIL would want to come if she truly has the flu.
There is a virus going around that is flu-like symptoms. Last ~4 days. Fever, aches, followed by a lingering cough. We had it during the holidays. After the fever is gone, my doctor said I was no longer contagious.
If she still plans on coming, I'd speak to DH & have him ask her if she's been to a dr & maybe he can get her some Tamiflu.

I agree with Pray4Baby Good Luck
he Flu Is Contagious Most healthy adults may be able to infect others beginning 1 day before symptoms develop and up to 5 to 7 days after becoming sick. Children may pass the virus for longer than 7 days. Symptoms start 1 to 4 days after the virus enters the body. That means that you may be able to pass on the flu to someone else before you know you are sick, as well as while you are sick. Some persons can be infected with the flu virus but have no symptoms. During this time, those persons may still spread the virus to others.

Re: WWYD FLU RELATED
I wouldn't want them around my family. But if it's SIL who is sick, why would you call your MIL and say SIL can't come?
Call your SIL directly and let her know that you'd love to have her when she's feeling better.

Re: WWYD FLU RELATED
Sorry but no.
You have the flu, he has been exposed my child is too young.
If you come near my house, we're leaving. You can not and will not expose my child needlessly.
It would be one thing if its been 2 weeks or so but no. That close, I'm sorry but no. Hate me if you want but if you feel that crappy with the flu why would you let my child who can't communicate to any one feel the same or even take the chance.

Re: WWYD FLU RELATED
DD and DH were sick on and off most of December. IF i knew someone was sick or just getting over being sick I would not want them around us. Flu is really serious this year. I know its not easy but i would be up front with them and say I am uncomfortable with this and could we reschedule. Acknowledge that its not an easy decision but that you want everyone to be able to enjoy themselves and be healthy, etc...

Update: Thank you to everyone that gave your opinion and responded. We did reschedule for Feb. I didn't speak to my MIL or SIL, DH handled the whole thing. He said they were disappointed, but understood. I am shocked, i guarantee there is a lot more to this it but I am glad I only know this much

Re: WWYD FLU RELATED
Coming from someone who just went through giving the stomach virus to 15 people up to 10 days after we had it, I would reschedule.
ETA: oops just saw your update...glad it worked out!
