WWYD? Birthday party related.
Kieran's 1st bday is coming up- January 21st, which is a Friday. I have a good friend whose daughter was born 3 days before Kieran- 1/18. We worked together and went through our whole pregnancies together, did prenatal yoga together, we always get the kids together to play, etc. Her party is on Saturday 1/22. My husband and I are having trouble deciding when to have Kieran's party. Here's the thing: He is a private voice teacher and he always takes Saturdays off from teaching, and Sunday is one of his biggest teaching days. So ideally, we'd love to have the party on a Saturday. He thinks its really weird to have a 1st bday party before he turns 1. He thinks it will be ridiculous if we have it the following Saturday (1/29), because "everyone will ask why we didn't have it on the 22nd, and we'll have to explain" and he thinks it's like embarrassing or something. He could teach some of his usual Sunday students on the Saturday (22nd), but obviously can't teach all day bc we have the other party to go to, so he would lose some money. Thanks for reading! WWYD??

I would do it on the 29th. I guarantee basically no one will question it  Parents plan parties whenever they can accomodate themselves AND hopefully as many friends and family as possible - I would never ask why it wasn't on a different date!!!

I think your DH is over-thinking this. To me either the 15th or the 29th are fine, I wouldn't do the 23rd since it would interfere with his work.
DSs birthday was 12/24, we are having his party on 1/29 because half of my family is going to Florida for most of January. Nobody seems to be phased by the party being a month past his birthday.

1/29...only b/c I don't like celebrating ahead of time, maybe I'm superstitious or something
I don't think people will question, if they do you can just say this day worked best for our family

That's what I said to him!! Who cares why we have it a week later??
I just told him that I posted this and that the overwhelming majority said they'd do it on the 29th. After discussion, he agreed we could do it that day only if I agree that we "won't deal with this every single year" and that we "get to have his 2nd bday party on his actual bday, which will be a Saturday." He's like all annoyed that they planned the party for that day. I was like "Umm, last time I checked, we don't OWN THE DATE!!"
Anyway, thanks for the input all- with your help, I convinced him!

My DD was born May 4th and I held her 1st Bday on May 15th. My inlaws are "snowbirds" and we wanted them to be home for it.
Not one person questioned it!
