I would leave DS home with my mom. We also had a routine at 5 months and I wouldn't want to mess with that. Plus it's a night out for you!!!

Let your mother in law pout I would leave him home. Yes she is porud and wants to show him off but she is not the one that has to deal with the issues that can arise.

pissy people never are allowed to piss on my parade 
the boy stays home. if she wants to introduce she can invite them to HER home in the AFTERNOON and host a brunch.
