WWYD -- another ? about buying baby gear...
About 3 weeks ago I was devistated when I found that the baby gear (travel swing, bouncer, activity mat) that we saved from DD#1 had gotten mold damage in storage.
My family told me to add the replacement items to my registry which I did, and we recieved both the bouncer and swing at my shower which was 2 weekends ago.
Since then...my sister has spoken to one of her friends who used to babysit out of her home. She has a travel swing and a bouncer that she wants to give me for free. They are very similar to what I recieved at my shower --- all made by fisher price. She got them from a Mom who had Quadruplets and so they were rarely used with the Quads since they had 4 of everything.
My sister is urging me to take them since they are free and in good condition, and to return the new items that I got from my stroller for store credit. She said I can use the store credit for diapers/formula in the future.
Part of me does thing that makes sense, but part of me is so excited to use the new things that we got at my shower. I also ponder the tackiness of returning the only bigger items I got at my shower for store credit.
WWYD?

IMO, if the things are in great condition, i would accept them and return the new bouncer and swing for credit. I'm terms of tackiness, are you concerned about your guests knowing you returned it or the store employees? Your guests won't know unless you tell them, and I'm sure the employees have seen crazier things happen in their store ! good luck with whatever u decide to do!

I agree! I'd take the gently used stuff and then take advantage of the store credit- you will definitely use it! I received a few doubles of larger items and returned them with no problems so don't worry about that. And your guests that gave the gifts will never know! Good luck

When I first registered for things I wanted everything new. Now that I am seeing how expensive things are getting I would definitely take used items as long as they are in good condition and not outdated. I have been getting a lot of my big items off my registry which is great but that leaves us with a ton of small items and clothes to buy. Even though we received a lot of larger items I have been keeping an eye out for similar used ones and I will just take the others back.

I guess I'm different but I would keep the new items you recieved.

Agreed. Because those people spent their time and money to get you a thoughtful gift that you needed. Either way, it doesn't cost you any money, so I would keep the gifts.

See, this is what I was thinking. Why did they bother putting a shower together for me and why did people bother to go out and pick out gifts for us if we are just going to return them for store credit? We can handle diapers and formula on our own, but I would prefer to use the items that people got us as gifts instead of returning them for store credit.
I am sure my sister is going to think I am ridiculous for saying this ... but.... luckily it is my decision, not hers!

This! I wouldn't even hesitate. There are still probably so many things you need. Plus diapers and such.

I would do this too. We returned a ton of things from our shower for DS 1, and I was so happy to have the credit when we needed tons of formula and diapers. I don't think I had to pay for formula for 6 months.
