WR...wedding date

Let's just say you were invited to a destination wedding (destination being Florida)...would you be annoyed if it were the weekend before thanksgiving or would you maybe make a long vacation out of it?? Hypothetically speaking of course!!
Thanks!Chat Icon

Re: WR...wedding date

it wouldn't matter to me- and I would make a vacation out of it-

(But I also spend thanksgiving in FL- so it would work out perfect for me)

Re: WR...wedding date

Well since I go away for the week of Thanksgiving, I would make a weekend of it in FL & then head to SC for Thanksgiving...

Ditto. If the people matter to you, the date shouldn't matter.

Re: WR...wedding date

the weekend before t-giving for a destination wedding wouldn't bother me... the weekend of t-giving would be hard. my choice about whether to go would depend on who it was getting married and whether or not it was a family wedding (so we could still see family)

whether i turned it into a vacay would depend on if it was some place i wanted to use vacation days from work and spend $$$ to go. if the answer to those ?s were yes, then I would!

Re: WR...wedding date

Thanks! We're having the wedding in FL..and have tentatively booked 11/15/08, but I think we may change it to 11/22 as that's the weekend before Thanksgiving. I've had a few family members tell me the would love to spend the holiday in FL...(hint hint!!) FH doesn't see the need to change it. He thinks a lot of people travel for t-day and wouldn't want to be traveling the weekend before. Chat Icon

ETA..sorry for bringing up wedding stuff on this board!

Agree. A great example of this issue is a friend of mine was ****** she got invited to a wedding on NYE--me? I wish I had plans on NYE where I could get dressed, dance and drink all night. I never have a fun NYE so to each his own

I wouldn't care.
We went to a wedding in FL last year the weekend before thanksgiving. We left on Friday and came back on Sunday night. Friday night was the RD, Sat. was the wedding, and then we just hung out on Sunday. It was really nice to get away for a few days.

Re: WR...wedding date

the only thing I would worry about is whether everyone got their air and hotel in time. it's a busy time of year for travel. Also, there are usually delays during that time and I would worry that people might not make it.

How many people would actually be traveling?

We were at a family wedding this weekend and the only complaint was how expensive the airfare was since it is one of the biggest travel weekends of the year.

So some people decided to drive here from Ohio rather than spend the money on airfaire, but they were here.

I wouldn't be annoyed, but I probably wouldn't go unless it was a close relative or DH or I were in the wedding.

It'smore because of the expense, than the holiday, but that's to be expected with a destination wedding.

Hmmm....Very true. About 150 guests....We're telling everyone about a year in advance and getting group airlines rates...I wish the venue didn't have both dates available-make this decision a whole lot easier!

Re: WR...wedding date

I probably wouldn't go unless it was a really close friend or family member, because I host Thanksgiving and would be afraid of not getting back in time.

I agree that the cost of flying would also be a deterrant.

Re: WR...wedding date

If it was family I would not mind about it being during the holiday, cause then I can see everyone. But otherwise, between the more expensive time of year to fly, the chaos of traveling during holiday, and not seeing family, I probably would side with not going.

Re: WR...wedding date

I would just make a long weekend out of it. Friday through Monday. We had a desitnation wedding in Florida (Sanibel/Captiva) in July and we flew down Sat, wedding was on Sun and flew back Monday. They were very close friends and that is why we went. The weekend cost us about $1200 and that is hotel/food for two days, airfare and wedding gift. Just an FYI
