Wouldn't this be common sense (snow related)?

I know we all complain about the people who don't clean snow off the top of the their cars. I manage to clear off my SUV's roof in its entirety. But what's with the people that drive around without even clearing off their back windshield? I was driving home from work yesterday and someone was in an accident who had snow covering his back windshield. Wouldn't it be common sense to clean it off? Does all common sense go out the window when it snows???Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I completely agree. I think it has less to do with common sense and more to do with lazy/selfish/entitled.

I saw a car like that the other day. They also had snow covering their side view mirrors. How do you change lanes when you can't see out the back or side? How lazy can you be? And it was a small sedan. Ridiculous.

Re: Wouldn't this be common sense (snow related)?

It depends how long the drive was, I was driving two hours yesterdatay and even though I cleared my back window, the defroster for some reason shuts off automatically so it would builds back upagain because I was moving so slowly it was like snow on a parked car. I had to pull over once to take the snow off again.

Wouldn't this be common sense (snow related)?

Yesterday in the snow during the afternoon I cleaned my car off to go get my son.....he is literally around the corner less than a 1/4 mile. When I stopped at the traffic light to make the turn my back windshield was already covered. Defrosted wasn't doing anything....

Just saying not everything is what it seems.

Re: Wouldn't this be common sense (snow related)?

I start my car and turn on the front and rear defrosters. I then have a long brush and push the snow off the windshields and windows and the roof. It does not take long.

Maybe he did not have anything to push snow off with or the snow from his roof fell onto his back windshield. Either way it is lazy.

I saw a car this morning on the LIE with a circle of visibility for the driver but the rest of the front windshield was covered. No way was this snow that fell from the roof forward. He/she deliberately only made a hole barely big enough to see out of. Lazy!

A woman was driving this morning and her side window was a sheet of ice with just a hole big enough to see out of cleared, how hard is it really, if you can make a hole you can clear the whole window , I have no idea what her front windshield looked like I was afraid to look

I agree. If you're too short to reach the roof, keep a broom in your trunk!

Re: Wouldn't this be common sense (snow related)?

I am lazy when it comes to that but that doesn't mean I drive that way!!!! I just go out and warm up the car with the rear defroster before I leave. Sure, it takes a good twenty minutes but it works like a charm every time!! By the time I get in the car to drive it's allllllll melted off.

If I can't see out the back I'm freaked out.

People who don't clean off their entire cars are one of my biggest pet peeves. I wish they would all get ticketed. It is so so dangerous.

Question- my car is old so I don't care and I do this, BUT- what about on a new car? Won't a broom scratch he HECK out of the paint?
That would freak me out.

I'm pretty careful to ONLY use the brush part.

I guess if it's a soft enough brush. I picture my snow brush with the bristles that are so rough they can draw blood! Chat Icon

Ha. Today at a red light some guy had to get out of his car to clean the show off the back. It came off in chunks of ice. How he made it as far as he did I have no clue

Lol they actually make some great extendable brushes.

Last winter I was 6 months pregnant and I drive an SUV. I still managed to clean off the top of the car. There aren't any excuses for doing something that can be unsafe for others
