Would you take a floor display item ***edited with story***
from a store if it were out of stock...with no discount?
ETA to add story
Dh and I went to Golfsmith today to buy a new set of clubs for me...
Nobody came to help us...I settled on a set, a bag, a putter, and a hat 
We went to the front to get help (only display sets are out), and the salesperson said, oh you want to see a set? I said, No, we want to buy this set...all decided...and he commented, Oh, most people don't really know what they want when they come in...
Easy sale for him... total laydown...assuming they work on commission
We show him the set, and he says he is going to the back to get it...but stops for 10 minutes to help someone else (he was not the only salesperson and there were about 3 people in the store)...
He comes out of the back empty handed...and says that they only have the display set...I could take that one...he has the box and everything...I said, ok, with a discount, right? With a major attitude, he says, NO! Its brand new just out of the box!
I say Nahhhhhh, I won't take a floor sample without a discount...expecting him to negotiate, or at least check stock in other stores, etc...and he just walks away 
So, we just walked out with nothing when this guy could have had a $$$$$ sale...
I just thought the whole thing was odd...even DH was pizzed and he doesn't get mad easily...

I agree.
Last summer, we went into Bombay company and saw a file cabinet. They had none in stock and the floor display had a scartch on top. But rather than $300, we paid $150 AND didn't have to assemble it. As for the scratch...it's underneath the desk countertop, so you'd never know!

OK after reading the story I would NOT buy them. Even if they gave you the discount, the salesman was a total turnoff and I would take my moula and go somewhere else.

they are still afraid of me at huntington MB b/c of a letter I wrote to the owner 3 years ago

My DH went to Golfsmith (in Carle Place) the other day to get golf shoes and got pretty terrible service too! He asked for help and told the salesman he was a beginner and the salesman walked away and helped other people, so my DH left! DH thought it was because they work on comission and he didn't think he'd make a lot of money off a beginner.
I would have only bought the set with a discount.
He actually ended up going to Sports Authority to get a putter. They leave them all out on the floor and there is a green where people can try them out. Well, DH picked his putter but all of the putters of the style he chose were scratched from people trying them. They gave him 15% off the item. Golfsmith should do the same!!

many yrs ago I bought a floor disply flat panel 17" monitor when they first came out and cost like $700! I got it for $400.

For most things, I would say I would buy it with a discount.
I worked a golf pro shop for 5 years, we didn't offer discounts on floor models and this was at a golf course where people tested them out at the range (with duct tape protecting the face). Maybe that is the nature of the golf business.

It depends on what it is.
I don't golf, but if I did I probably would pay full price for a display model of golf clubs.
They are only golf clubs. It's not like they have been previously hitting balls with that set. Plus it's not like the clubs are losing their value sitting there.
Is this any different than buying the last pair of sneakers at foot locker? You know when they have to find the matching sneaker for the one that's already on display because there aren't any left. I don't ask for a discount there either.
If it was something with a shelf life, like a TV, then I would definitely only buy with a discount.

And re-reading what I wrote, I really meant, we'd check what we had, but we couldn't call around anywhere, so if they didn't want the floor set, we'd have to order them or they had to buy something else.
