Would you still go?

So a friend e-mails me asking if I'm going to her daughters christening next Sunday.

I replied that I never got the invite.

She says she mailed it out weeks ago.

Obviously, I never got it, but told her that I would make it anyway, just give me the details.

I've been thinking - I kinda have a feeling she isn't meeting the minimum amount of people she guaranteed for the restaurant, so she decided to invite me & DH last minute & claimed she sent the invite.

Would you still go to the party, or would you get offended?

We are still going, no doubt, but I hate that I feel like this- kinda makes me feel like she just invited us because she didn't have enough people. But then again, just being invited to share in this wonderful event is an honor.

I really dont even know what to feel anymore.Chat Icon

Just go and have a good time. Don't drive yourself nuts thinking about it. If she did in fact invite you last minute, then when she sees you and your DH, she will feel like a fool for having left you out in the first place.

Sometimes people get a little crazed when planning! Not to say it's right, but it happens.

Maybe it really did get lost in the mail?
If you're a close friend...I would go.

This is a possibility. We are pretty close friends - I was invited to her wedding. I'm probably just overreacting.

Is there any basis for this, or is it just paranoia?

If you truly believe that this is what happened and you don't want to be there, I would just decline.

If this is just a hunch based on nothing, then I would go and give her the benefit of the doubt.

Re: Would you still go?

If I wanted to go, I would go and just forget about the particulars of how I was invited and have a good time. Life is just too short for me to get too worked up over this stuff.

We were invited to a wedding where we suspected we were the "seat fillers" to meet the minimum, but they were friends of DH and he was going to know a lot of other people there. We don't get all dressed up and go to events like this too often, so we went and had a great time. What I thought was more rude was the "friend" who informed us at the church that indeed a whole bunch of people were invited because the bride and groom needed to make the minimum. Chat Icon

Re: Would you still go?

I was in a simialr situation for a baby shower last year.

I thought she was having a shopwer, but didn't hear anything. Then a mutual friend asked if I'd be there & I told her I didn't know anything about it.

Then a few days before the party the dad-to be emailed me & invited me. He said sais his wife's sister sent out the invites & mind got returned to her, but he didn't know why.

It sounded to me like they left me off the list, and I wonder if my mutal friend was the one who mentioned it to him, but I dont' knwo the wife's sister well, I am mor ethe husbnad's friend, so I can forgive her if she forgot.

I was happy for them, and wanted to see the mom-to-be ( and I happend to be free Labor Day weekend), so I went.

It was a mad rush to get a gift, but I'm glad I went. Several people couldn't make it because of the holiday weekend, so if if I was an add-on, I was happy to be there for her.

ETA- getting lost in the mail is a possibilty. A few of my bridal shower invites got lost or were bad addresses, and I was invited to my friend's rehearsal sinner even though I wasn't in teh wedding & I wodered why he never gave me specifics when I emailed him , and it wasn't untill mnmths after that the invite came! I didn't even knwo he had sent out paper invites, since it was a RD. I thought he was just being flaky by forgetting to tell me the name of the restauarnt.

Re: Would you still go?

I defintely would go no matter what the circumstances were. There is a good possibility that it did get lost in the mail. If not, like another poster said, she will feel silly when she sees you guys there. Have a good time.

Even if it was that, I wouldn't get upset. These events are expensive and sometimes you think you can't invite people you really want there, and then circumstances change.
