Would you let one of your girlfriends live with you and your DH?
DH and I have been playing around with the idea of buying a 2 family house this spring. I mentioned it to one of my best girlfriends and she was like "that's perfect, my lease is up this fall so I'll just rent the apartment!". I'm not thrilled with this idea.
It's not that I dont trust them, I've been friends with her for 10 years and love her like a sister. But the thought of her being under the same roof bothers me. I know she will constantly be wanting to hang out with us, and i also dont like the idea of them being there alone when i'm not home. You never what could happen. Am i being stupid?

huh, kind of rude of her to assume that she be living there. imo, i would not rent to a friend/family member. they could be 100% trustworthy, but it never ends well. so, no you are not being stupid.

IN ALL HONESTY===NO!
I had a best best friend who got a boob job-went off the deep end,got a job as a stripper and started to h it on my hubby.
I am sure it wouldn't happen but why**chance it--rent to a guy/

i wouldnt rent to a friend or a family member.. could cause a problem- u just never know.. it is those 'different' sides of people!

I would be very wary of renting to a friend or family member, not only because of her wanting to hang out with you, like you mentioned, but also because what if she doesn't pay the rent? It puts you in an awkward situation.

absolutely not, rent to a stranger where there are no ties-no hard feelings if something doesnt work out-it will be so much easier in the long run!

family and friends only complicate things

I would NEVER rent to a friend or a family member.
I served eviction papers today on tenants (wife is pregnant with two small kids) and if it were family I would never hear the end of it.
Not that I feel bad though since these tenants are not only late with rent for months on end (with no plans to pay it seems) but they are also crass & obnoxious to DH and they changed things in the house w/o permission (new locks, broken door & frame when trying to hang a door w/o permission & painting w/o permission).

i wouldn't do it for exactly the reason you posted
what if she expects to hang out with you two all the time - you need your privacy and it might get on DH's nerves

In response to the above.....
I have my friend and my Goddaughter living with me for the last 4 months (not renting just helping her out because she needed it).
They're IN my house (3 bedrooms, they're occupying 2 of them).
I have no problem with her and my husband alone together, otherwise I wouldn't have him as a husband or her as a best friend in the first place.
I know that you can never be 100% positive, but I have to have faith in my choices of having both of them in my life.
I do agree with the other posters though, I wouldn't rent to a friend because money can turn people real ugly.
