Would you invite a baby?
My DS is turning 5 and having an animal party where the kids will touch and learn about 10 small animals. We didn't invite my SIL who had a baby in September. It never even crossed our minds. But MIL asked DH the other day if we were inviting her? I'll certainly invite her, but why? My niece barely sits up on her own. It's not like she'll be able to play. Was it wrong of us to not send her an invitation?

Personally I would have invited her. Especially since she is family and I'm sure there is no charge for the baby.

I would have invited her. If she declines, okay. But at least give her the option. Sounds like a fun party!

I would invite her because, why not? If she comes she will just hang out and you won't have to pay for the baby anyway. Maybe your SIL will enjoy some time out of the house.

I would invite. That's your SIL and mine(all. 6) would kill me if I didn't. Whether they had kids or not.

I agree, even if I wouldn't go I would feel sad for not being invited.

My oldest is 8. Since their first birthdays where we had big hall type parties, we have always had our immediate families over for dinner and cake to celebrate their birthdays. We always have a kids party with their friends and we have never invited our families.

Re: Would you invite a baby?
I would have invited her- maybe she would have wanted to be there just for your child's birthday, and to bring her baby even she can't participate. I always think it's better to give people the option and let them say no- even if her baby is too young..maybe just being there would have been nice for her!

Would you invite a baby?
I waited two plus years to have a baby. When I finally had one I would have been so sad to have been excluded. For my DDs 2nd bday one of my best friends came w her 9mos old. She couldn't participate in any activities. But I still had a little goodie bag for her with bows from etsy and a little touch and feel book. I would definitely invite! She'll decline if she doesn't want to go.

Re: Would you invite a baby?
Ok, I just sent her a text. I invited them and said that I know the baby won't be able to play, but they may get some cute photo ops with some of the animals.

For the record, she hasn't attended or shown any interest in any other of my kids birthday parties.

Maybe now that she has her own child, even though she is young, maybe she would have wanted the option to participate? You would know her best, but I always invited people to my kid's parties and let them decide what they wanted to do. JMO though!

Tough call, but I'd still send out the invite. She may not come, but at least now she can decide for hers.rfif she wants to come.

If you have family over to the house for cake another time and you have never invited family to the kids parties I would not invite my SIL and a baby to a kids party. If there was other family, sure, but I don't think its necessary.

Re: Would you invite a baby?
I would invite her. Even though previously she didnt show any interest before. She has a baby now. Yes, the baby wont really even know whats going on but its nice to get out and be around other people with children. Plus if its her first everything is so exciting. I brought my 8 week old to my friends 1st birthday party. Of course he couldn't do anything but I got him all dressed up and off we went.

I would have invited her. I would also bring my baby to a party he was invited to for his cousins. My DS was about 14 months old when he went to his first roller skating party. He had fun watching the big kids.

I did invite her. But I'm glad someone else thinks like I do. I really didn't see the big deal and neither did DH.

Re: Would you invite a baby?
This just happened to me with my SIL and I was hurt. My DD is going to be 18 months and her daughter is turning 8 and having a couple of friends go to a pottery place. She didn't invite us even when I said how my DD would probably enjoy being there and obviously if it were too much for her I would walk around with her or go outside. DH and I were hurt. I understand she is a baby, but its nice to be included or to have your child included in things. Maybe your SIL would say no but I think that's for her to decide. If it were a friend with a small baby then I probably wouldn't have invited her, but this is family.

Re: Would you invite a baby?
Id invite her. It's a cousin. It will be fun for her and she will probably like seeing the animals. If SIL feels she is too young she won't come. My girls were 5 mo when they went to their first birthday party. We basically stood at the front with another mom and dad with a 3 mo old and chatted. It was still exciting.

I think it's different once you have kids. She is family. I'd invite her.

I don't know if I would have invited her because I've never been in that situation with the family. But I don't see the big deal that you didn't invite her with a five month old. I don't invite family, except for my MIL, to my kids' parties at a party place if they don't have kids.

Re: Would you invite a baby?
In this case yes, I would invite her because I could see a baby enjoying animals. Had you done a karate or pottery type party or chuck e cheese, I would have said no. To the other poster, who was upset about no invite for an 18 month old to an 8year old party, honestly, as a mom to a 7 1/2 year old and a 5 year old, I don't think everything is age appropriate for every child. If you dc was 4 then yes she should have been included, but at 18 months, I don't think it is age appropriate to take an 18 month old to a pottery place.

Re: Would you invite a baby?
She's family, it's his sister so yes I would have invited her and her baby.
It would be up to her to either come with the baby, come alone and arrange for a sitter for the baby, or decline all-together.
If she came alone, and left the baby with a sitter, I would think she'd want to come to enjoy her nephew's birthday and see him celebrate his birthday.
