Would you/have you used chalkboard paint in your nursery?
I'm thinking of painting DDs closet door with chalkboard paint. I figure for now I can have my very artistic sister draw something pretty until dd is old enough to draw her own pics! My concern is that it will teach dd Thad it's ok to write on doors. ( more my moms concern than mine) I feel I will just have to teach her that her door is ok but no other doors/walls are. We dont have a playroom. Any experience or opinions welcome!

I don't have it but I like it! I say go for it.
In this house, we use crayons, markers, paints, everything...and my kids know they have specific places they're allowed to use them. They're not even allowed to walk around with crayons. As long as you set the ground-rules, they should be fine!

what about the dust from the chalk? that's my only concern.
I think you can teach them not to use it on other places.

Personally, I wouldn't do it in my DD's bedroom bc of the dust/mess factor, but I would do it in a playroom.

I HAAAAATE chalk, it's such a mess that I would NOT want that in my DD's room at ANY age. Too much dust, too much mess. Not my thing, not at all. I am all about crayons, Color Wonder markers and in the future..........white boards. Way neater IMO!!

Hmmm, didn't think of the dust...the door is on another side of the room from the crib...do they make dustless chalk?? I will have to look into this further!
Is chalk dust a health issue or just messy? The bedroom has a hard wood floor and the area rug is not in the corner by the closet.

White board markers stink tho! I think Chalk is fun, and had an easel as a child that was half chalk board and half giant paper which is why I thought it would be nice, but I guess it will be messy...now im torn about this...

We don't have a playroom, so our only option was to do it in their bedroom 2 yrs ago. The boys are 6 and 4 and they still play with it. We also added the magnetic paint and they probably play with that more than the chalk. Overall, it's not as messy as one would imagine, when they are done playing for that day they wipe it down with a rag.

Chalk dust I imagine would be a health issue, just as pure talc baby powder is for a young child. I would never do this in an infants room, just to be safe.

my parents allowed me to draw on my walls when i was little. (not chalkboard, regular walls)
they made it clear that ONLY MY ROOM was ok and that i would have to live with it for a while!
my friends loved it and so did i! i never drew on any other walls, was fine with my walls for about 4 years. then as i got older they painted them over.
my uncle painted and he is still reminding me it took 4 coats to covers the WAX crayons i used! 
it was awesome for me, and if i could i'd probably let DS do it too. But since we're renting....

Love this! It's not too messy if you do not give them a bucket of chalk. The dust wipes up with a damp towel or wipe. Add a piece of molding at the bottom to catch dust and keep chalk and eraser there when she gets older. They may even sell chalk board rail or ledger.
I've bee meaning to do it in DS's room, closet door. He's 2 so you've got time before she's ready for chalk.

I'm more hesitant to do whiteboard b/c those markers smell & though they wipe off the whiteboard, they still stain other surfaces...I think chalk is easier to clean...
