 | Would you go? or am I just being unreasonable? This is a little long so please bear with me...
I am due with #2 in July. At that time I will also have a 2.5 year old. DH has a cousin who is getting married in the beginning of Sept. in Vt on a boat on Lake Champlain. Kids are invited.

My DH and his family think we should definately go. I, however, am hesitant. Aside from the fact that I do not like the idea of bringing a 6 week old to a wedding, it would be differetn if I could just go to the church and then go back to the hotel with the kids while DH attends the reception. The thing is the entire wedding (ceremony and reception) is on a boat. I am assuming we cannot get off. So I am thinking, 2 kids, loud music on a boat - just not a good recipe.

If you have read this far - Thank you!! What do you think?

P.S. not that this really matters but this particular cousin did not attend our wedding 3 yrs ago because she was a Sr. in college (within driving distance) and had a lacrosse game the following day.

 TIA!!

 | Re: Would you go? or am I just being unreasonable? I wouldn't go. The whole idea of being trapped on the boat the entire time was the dealbreaker for me. If you were at a hall, or outside and you could move away from all the people and the loud music, I might give it a shot, but not on a boat.
I tend to be a pessimist in these situations, but then again I am the one that has to deal with the fallout when the meltdown occurs, so IMO I get double the vote.

 | Re: Would you go? or am I just being unreasonable? Nope, nada, no way. The LAST thing I'd want to be worrying about is watching a toddler and taking care of a newborn on a rocking boat. ESPECIALLY a boat that I can't get off of.
At 6 weeks we were JUST starting to develop a routine with both kids- so I KNOW I would have politely declined.

Hell- I have a wedding in NY in May that I've declined because I don't want to deal with taking care of both babies in a *foreign land*.

 | Re: Would you go? or am I just being unreasonable? And just to add - don't fall for the whole "the family will help you with the kids" line. If the children are having a rough time, they are going to want you and although I think people have good intentions when they say that, IMO it will be all on you. |

 | Re: Would you go? or am I just being unreasonable? DS is 5 weeks old and I can't imagine bringing him to an affair that will last several hours, especially if you know you won't be able to get off the boat! Don't feel bad about not attending. It isn't like your DH isn't going to attend. |

 | Re: Would you go? or am I just being unreasonable? I wouldn't take a 6 week old infant to a wedding in those surroundings. The loud music and the delicate ears are a bad mix. That together with having no escape if the kids get tired and cranky, there is NO WAY I would take the kids. I might consider a babysitter, but I definitely wouldn't bring both kids. |

 | Re: Would you go? or am I just being unreasonable? I used to work on a boat like that (on Lake George) though. I would say NOT to bring your children on. Not because kids won't have fun, but if they have meltdowns, there is literally no place for you to go, it would prob. cause you more stress than you need. |

 | Re: Would you go? or am I just being unreasonable? If it was a regular wedding I would go and attend as much as possible then head back to the hotel with the baby, kids. But on a boat....No freaking way. With my luck, the second the boat left the dock my kids would meltdown and I'd be stuck there miserable while everyone else was having a good time. 6 week old babies trump boat weddings IMO. |

I love how people just "expect" you to schlep everywhere when you have a new baby. (feel your pain)
