would you get an MRI while pregnant?
I am so torn. I have been having very bad migraines daily for a few weeks now. they are only getting worse, not better. It is hard for me to drive and stand up for long periods of time. my OB sent me to a neurologist yesterday and he suggested having an MRI done of my brain. now the chances of it coming back positive are so slim and I really dont think anything is wrong like that but what should I do? what if they dont get any better? I do not want to get the MRI done if it could possibly hurt the baby. the neurologist said right now they do not have any proof to show that is hurts the baby but I dont know if it is worth taking the chance. wwyd?

Re: would you get an MRI while pregnant?
Hi,
I got an MrI when pregnant with my daughter due to growing fibroids. It is actually less dangerous than a CT scan. She is npw 4 months old and developing beautifully

I think the stress to your body from the headaches is worse for the baby than the MRI.
Your neuro knew you were prego right. DOubt he would suggest anything dangerous.

You can have an MRI with no contrast, but I'm not sure if that would work in your situation. Most of the time the contrast is needed.
When I was 20 weeks pregnant, I developed a condition directly related to MS and I was hospitalized for 4 days for treatment. An MRI was needed to diagnos me but both my OB and Neurologist told me absolutely not. I had to wait until after I gave birth.
I've had 3 brain MRIs done since my DS has been born and each time I had to wait 48-72 hours before I could BF again.
ETA: I didn't even answer your question!! I personally wouldn't. Is there anything else they can do to treat you?

I had a MRI done when I was 32 weeks pregnant with my durst & the MRI was actually being done on him bc he had an enlarged ventricle. I honestly had no choices but now DS is 2 & fine.

Re: would you get an MRI while pregnant?
i was also having migraines, but they were ocular so they were affecting my vision. i was getting them more than once a day, so my OB urged me to get an MRI just on the off chance that i could have a blood clot and he wanted to be safe. i was a bit freaked out about it as well, but he assured me, the neurologist assured me, and the doctors at the MRI (i guess they are also neurologists?) ALL told me that it wouldn't harm the baby. i was told that it's ok b/c it does not involve radiation, it's just magnetic. but they did mention that it was ok b/c i was 32 weeks. i don't know how far along you are, but if it's too early you might not want to do it.
i still felt uneasy but i had it done anyway, b/c i was worried about it being something worse and i figured the stress of not knowing was bad enough for the baby.
good luck with your decision.

I had an MRI on my back when I was about 22 weeks pregnant with my DD. I had a badly ruptured disc, and they needed to see how bad it was to determine if I could have a v-birth or not.
I actually have the MRI pic...my neurosurgeon was fascinated because he had never seen an unborn baby on an MRI before!
