Re: Would you buy a house across the street from a park/field

I would in a heart beat. Yes it will be noisy during baseball games and you may have a few teens skateboarding or being a PIA but think of the access to walk/read a book, if you have kids or will have kids they can always be at the park!

We live about three to four blocks from our park and so far haven't walked up there yet because of house work but we know we definitely will be doing this since now we are done.

i would if i loved the house and the price was right, and the location otherwise was good (like a good town/school district)

Do you feel like if you get this house, you're settling for the park?

Personally, I wouldn't want to live near a park--a few blocks over, sure...but not facing.

I would, if I loved the house. you can have teens and drugs in the house next door as well as in their backyard. there is a house on my block that has teens outside all night long

IDK if this is helpful...

I live along side a park. Its not one really that has ballpark although there is a few games played there. Its a small setup for kids, swings, jungle gym, basketball court etc.
Its behind the house with a path that is along side of our house.

I didnt see it as a problem or do now.

Its convenient for my DD.

We do get the occasional kids at nite and as long as they are at a low volume and I dont hear them.... great!
Most of the time its during the summer, and the cops do circulate and chase them out. We hear that, LOL

That has been my only issue...and its normally resolved quickly.

I used to live across from a park, the baseball field of the park. For the most part I didn't mind it, but I will give you 1 piece of advice:

Sit by the house when a game is going on and see if an ice cream man comes around.

There were 2 ice cream trucks that sat by the baseball field/park every weekend and played the 30 second song loop OVER AND OVER AND OVER again. By 6pm on Sunday night I would be a crazy person and DH would have to go out and offer the guy money to stop playing the music! Chat Icon

I never had issues with people in the park at night.

It is YOUR house so you guys should do whatever makes you happy. I would check it out at all different days/times and then decide.

That's what I would suggest. Go during the day when there is a game, during evening hours. Go check it at several times of day/weekend to get a better idea. When there is a game, how often they play, etc...

Re: Would you buy a house across the street from a park/field

My house faces a huge park and we like it (most of the time) There is a gate that is sometimes closed at dusk, but not always.

We are not close to ballfields though, we are closer to soccer fields, so on the weekends, you can hear and see people in the park. On the weekends it gets a tad crazy over there with people cheering, but it's not too bad.

For us, it's been good overall. We can easily walk right over to the park to shoot hoops, hit a tennis ball around, etc. and now that we have a 2 year old, we take full advantage of going for walks in the park and heading over to the playground.

Yes, at night especially in the summers, kids hang out in there, but they go deeper into the park and don't usually hang out near the gate.

Re: Would you buy a house across the street from a park/field UPDATE

I used to live across the street from a small playground/ballfield. While it was nice to have the convenience of a playground at my disposal and have that "summertime feel" when the kids were playing ball and you'd hear the crowds cheer, the night time brought elements to the area that were not desireable. I was constantly on alert for drug dealers, had the Fifth Precient on speed dial, etc. It was also very disheartening to go up there with my child and find drug baggies, etc. scattered all over the place in the morning. I would never think to do it again.

UPDATE: So we went to see it...I Chat Icon it so much!!! We've driven by a couple of times and it has not been trafficky or busy at all but I knew that bc of the parking lot it has and it's not really a huge park...I'm going to drive by it this weekend at all hours day and night and see how it is...
But it's really the house we love...and the area we like..oh well we shall see

we bought a house next to a park, a very small park with a little grass and some smaller swings and slides, but the house is exactly what we wanted in a forever home in a 1st house. if its something you love that much you should go for it!! Especially before someone else scoops it up!!
