would this upset you

my b-day is close to x-mas but I have a final on my b-day, so my only request was for my BF to spend the 23rd with me to celebrate together. I took off work, want to sleep in, etc.....with christmas eve the next day, and it falling during the week, that friday is the best day to celebrate.

He has an aunt flying into the country the 23rd (I understand that he has not seen her in about 5 yrs). Would you be upset if your BF/dh went with his mother to be at the airport? Even though she's in for a month, & he'll see her the next day, for the holidays. Also who knows if his brother will even be going?

I don't even know if he said he'd actually go for sure, but he mentioned it,,,,I am SURE his mother excepts him to be there.

I want do get other people's thought on this?

Is it just that he is going to the airport to pick her up?
And then the rest of the day is yours?

If so...then no i wouldn't be upset

I would be disappointed. I don't know if I would be upset though. I am sure he would rather be with you, but something must be in his head telling him that going to the airport is the right thing to doChat Icon

I don't really know the details. when he mentioned that he might need to go to the airport with his mom, he did not know the time either. I think he knows I'll be upset too, since it was the only thing I really asked for (1st b-day with him, and given past idiots who didn't spend my b-day with me)

I'm not mad, I guess disappointed is a better word. I think it's also, that if the brother is not there too, I might actually be mad.

I agree. DH's bday is the 23rd, and we usually go out to dinner and a movie (or whatever he feels like doing), but we really don't need to spend 24/7 together that day (we do, of course, live together, but if I have an errand to run or whatever I'll do it). How long have you been together? The first 2 years we dated I didn't take off work for his bday; just met him for dinner after work.

we have had some rough schedules with school and work, and we are both off. Actually we were supposed to go away the following week, but we are moving in together, so money is tight and needed to cancel the trip. That is why I asked for the day to relax in our new place together.

I'm guessing his Mom might not be comfortable going to airport alone. Dealing with traffic, parking, finding the gates, handeling his Aunt's lugggage for the month, he may need to be there to help her.

Maybe you could go get a massage/mani/pedi while he's doing that?

It would bug me, yes. I understand what your going for - spending the day together relaxing to celebrate your birthday. A trip to the airport sounds simple enough, but who knows what it will turn into. I just don't see why it's necessary for him to go to the airport if he's going to see her the next day... and possibly for a month thereafter.

I might be biased because I haven't spent a single birthday with Dh and we have been together since 2000 and next year he will be deployed for mine and our son's birthday but I don't see what the big deal is as long as you get part of the day with him.
Also maybe is he needed to help his mom with the trip to the airport and for luggage? The airport that close to the holidays is pretty hairy. I really don't see the huge deal well unless things get delayed..

that's my thoughts too...but it's just how I think his mom is. I think it's sorta new to her that he has a "new girl" in his life.
