Would this get under your skin after awhile?
You have a family member (a distant in-law) as your FB friend.
What if each and every time you post a pic/video of your DC, this person comments, "SORRY. S/HE IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOO YOUR DH. SORRY!" or "(insert kid's name here) is ALLLLLLL (insert your spouse's name here) SORRY!!"
I'm not even sure how to interpret this except I guess it means the kid completely takes after your spouse and not you?

Would this get under your skin after awhile?
That's how I would take it. But it would piss me off and I'd probably figure out a remark to say back.

I would block her specifically from seeing any photos you don't want her to see. That way she can keep her comments to herself.

Re: Would this get under your skin after awhile?
Ughh I don't know!
One of DH's cousins constantly makes remarks that are just so annoying, that I've seriously considered getting rid of her on my friends list.
We teach DS Italian and he is with my mom 5 days a week. She speaks to him in Italian and he is very familiar with a lot of things associated with typical Italian families - like Nutella, Toppo Gigio, zecchino d'oro etc.
If I post something about him and one of these things - her typical responses are "He is also American - he should know who Scooby Doo is and what Fluff tastes like also"
If I post he said something in Italian - she posts "This is America, who should know English"
Or if someone says he looks like me or my brother (I think DS does look like my brother when he was younger) her comments are "He is ALL is Daddy in every pic"
Get over yourself...

I'm glad I'm not crazy in being sensitive over it.
Something irks me about what she says...but I can't put my finger on it as to why. We get along fine in person, but she says this in the flesh, too.

Re: Would this get under your skin after awhile?
i've been hearing it from DH's side since my son was born! it would bother me if it wasn't for DH. He keeps on showing me pics of DS looking just like me, and the "stronger" personality traits are definitely mine.
and really, DS looks just like my younger brother. SIL actually confused their baby pictures once!

Re: Would this get under your skin after awhile?
yup with my dd#1 i heard this from everyone and although it wouldnt have bothered me if the comments from my mil werent so utterly ridiculous and almost disrespectful.....
after she was born my mil would say things like "well she's definitely a (insert our last name)" and then proceeded to look straight at my parents and say" if you want a (insert my maiden name) baby jen is going to have to have a another one because this one is nowhere near a (insert my maiden name)".....fact is when dd was a baby she really did look like my dh's baby pictures and i loved that but then i had to hear how she looked like one of dh's sisters baby pictures which i turned and looked at the picture and said she doesnt look anything like her sorry and then i had to hear that she looks exactly like my mil's mother which besides her cheeks and wider set eyes she looks nothing like her either .....and my mil also proceeded to say things like that dd was an all irish baby and totally negating my side of the family which is totally and utterly disrespectful so i would say things like well unfortunately for you what she looks like will never change the fact that she isnt an all irish baby so sorry for you
but fast forward to now dd#1 is almost 4 and for about a little over a year people stop me and say how much she looks like me and i just think its funny how much its changed
and as for my dd#2 we've been told she looks like our side of the family since shes born and that just burns my mil up its hysterical lol and her name is an italian name and although she has never said it i know that it kills her lol
fact is kids change so many times throughout their lives its so silly to say "oh so and so is allllllllll you"....or "so and so looks nothing like you" those comments are rude and basically untrue you can always find something.... a smile... eye shape etc etc and of course personality that shows a little of both parents

Re: Would this get under your skin after awhile?
The SORRY! part would piss me off. I'd be like- why are you sorry? It's a fact. The kid had a 50/50 chance of looking like DH vs me. I had no control in it. What the EFF are you SORRY! about?

this is what probably would bother me the most. I hear it all the time that she looks exactly like my DH and it really does not bother me at all

Yeah it's almost as if the "SORRY" part shows that she means it as a veiled insult.

That's what I was thinking.
If she said ooh, so cute - she looks so much like daddy or something to that effect, it probably wouldn't bother me as much but, why so many capital "SORRY"s?

I agree. The "sorry" is obnoxious. I read that as "ha! your kid looks nothing like you - doesn't that suck!"
My DD looks NOTHING like me, so I don't mind if people say that, I joke about it all the time, but if they said it that way constantly, I would be more than annoyed.

Would this get under your skin after awhile?
I don't know this doesn't bother me one bit...so what if people think my DD looks like my husband...she does. It doesn't change the fact that she's my child. I wouldn't sit there and pick at things like "oh yea well thats my ear! and the corner left section of her cheek looks exactly like me when i was her age so THERE! We say all the the time how my DS is soo a "maiden name". I don't get the annoyance factor it's not like people are saying "your child looks nothing like your spouse but they do resemble the mail man."

Re: Would this get under your skin after awhile?
My kids all look exactly like DH and I'm fine with it, I don't mind comments.
However, no one as ever said it in a way to try to sting me, it's always just been as a casual comment. If they did, I would get ticked.

OP- It might bug me, but I don't think a comeback or blocking is necessary.

We gets mixed reviews on DD, of course I love hearing "She's so beautiful she looks just like you" ;) But when they say she looks like DH it doesn't bother me.
If it was the same person saying it over & over again I would probably get annoyed. Maybe throw something sarcastic in like that's OK she has my neck, or my knee lol

Re: Would this get under your skin after awhile?
MILs were infamous for this with DS#1. He is the spitting image of his father, BUT DH has curly hair and DS has straight hair (LIKE ME!) I said something like, "well, at least he has my hair" and they responded, "No, BIL had that hair when he was born"
I turned to them and whispered "I'm getting the maternity test on Monday" They didn't get it at first, but those comments pretty much stopped after that. Until DS#2 came around and looks lie my mom's brothers. they all say he looks like my father. They just want to be right.

Re: Would this get under your skin after awhile?
It definitely would. I mean, what's the POINT of saying that if not to make you feel bad?
I have one FB friend who always said the same things. The weird thing is, it's not even true. You have to see pics of my kids next to me and my sisters and cousins as kids and you'll wonder if my DH was the father!! The only thing they inherited from him was his brown eyes (and DS his sicilian complexion). And no matter how many times I pointed that out to her, she never "got it." But she makes other stupid remarks on a regular basis so I'm inclined to believe she's just socially awkward and not intentionally mean.

Re: Would this get under your skin after awhile?
I get this from my MIL all the time. She brings baby pictures and says that DS looks just like DH.
After 2 years... and every snide comment I can make, i've just given up. Everyone wants to see their genes in a cute child.
