Would this bother you?

We use the phone service Vonage. With Vonage, you can log into a website to see who called, what calls were made, etc. I just logged on to see if a company who I have been waiting to call me has called. I happened to notice that 3 calls were made today. My cleaning girl came today- so she would have been the only one to make the calls. She made 3 calls, 1 lasting 10 minutes.

This kind of aggravates me because I know she has a cell phone that she brought into the house (I saw her put it in her pocket just as she came in the house). I dont really care about the minutes because its a flat rate per month- but to me, its just the fact that she was using my stuff!!

Would you be bothered?

Yes it would bother me if they were long distance. She doesn't know that you have a flat rate.

I know my cell has spotty coverage. If it was important, it wouldn't bother me.

That would bother me. But, then again, I am not much of a "sharer" so anyone using my stuff bothers me Chat Icon

yes, it would bother me, a lot. i'd wonder what else she feels free to use...perfume, make-up, etc. personally, i'd be looking for someone else to hire.

No, it was 2 calls lasting 1 minute each, and 1 call lasting 10 minutes. They were calls to a 631 number- we are 516- so its not really long distance.

I hardly get cell phone reception IN my house- but once you step outside, you get reception. If it was that important, she could have just stepped outside. I have no problems with her taking a small break while she's cleaning!

i completely agree with this! have you ever seen "Friends with Money" with Jennfier Aniston? she'd go stealing little bottles of moisturizer, go through the drawers, and actually had sex in the owners bed when they werent home! this is exactly why i watch the cleaning lady. i dont follow them around or anything, but i make sure i'm on the same floor so they dont go snooping around.

eta: i wouldnt fire her, but i would definitely bring it up nonchalantly to see what she says.

Exactly! I was a little leary of having someone that I dont know at all in my house while I wasnt home anyway- and this just puts me more on the edge. Being in my 8th month of pregnancy is the reason why I hired her in the first place- its just too hard for me to clean the house now! MIL trusts her- which was good enough for me- but now I dont know!

Re: Would this bother you?

It would bother me a little, not the money, since its flat rate, but like others said, what else is she using. Still, I think I'd wait to see if it continues before saying something, maybe she had an emergency that day or had a situation to deal with?

My thoughts exactly. I wouldn't feel comfortable with someone like that in my house.

Re: Would this bother you?

Maybe I am in the minority here but it would not bother me at all. As a matter of fact my cleaning lady makes calls on our house phone which is fine with as long as she does not sit on it for hours which she does not do.

I wouldn't be bothered enought to say anything but I WOULD keep an eye out from here on out of the phone usage when she is at your house. If it becomes a problem, speak to her about it. It could've been a one-time thing.

Re: Would this bother you?

yes, she shouldn't be using your phone unless you have an agreement with her. 3 calls at 10 minutes each is 30 minutes you are paying her for using your phone.

Re: Would this bother you?

some of you have got to be joking..... look for a new housekeeper because she used the PHONE??? please tell me you arent serious?!

i wouldnt be upset. she used your phone, i dont see the big deal. if she made 2 calls at 1 min or less each then it seems like she was trying toget ahold of someone. so it was probably important.

her cell phone was maybe low on battery? no reception? if i have an important call i prefer to use landline to be on the safe side.

my mom is a housekeeper and has called me from peoples houses if she had somehting important to tell me because her cell doesnt always work in some houses. but if it works obviously she uses her cell.
needles to say we dont chat away forever on someones phone.

just dont get mad so easily i mean, there may have been a good reason.
maybe not, you never know.

she isnt stealing from you right? she does a good job, yes?
i would let it go. look at your bill again after the next time she works and then if it has continued THEN i would start to keep an eye on it or call her out... but until then i wouldnt worry.

Thanks! Dont worry, I wasnt going to go out looking for a new cleaning girl already! She does do an awesome job cleaning my house- for which I am very grateful!

I was just a little shocked to see that she was using the phone. I'm not going to say anything, just going to keep an eye out. Cell phone service is really bad in my house- so hopefully thats all it was!

Thanks again everyone!! I guess it was just my initial shock that she was using the phone that got to me!!!

and i think your initial reaction is totally understandable.

but i think alot of posters are jumping the gun.

i just called my mom and was like "do you clean for a lady named Liz?" ahs she said No, so its not her.

i told her what some of the people on here wrote about her using your makeup and stuff how you should look for a new housekeeper and i wont lie, we were dying laughing. (she would NEVER use someone makeup or perfume or whathaveyou) we thought it was funny how ppl go from usingthe phone to stealing.

but like i said, i would keep an eye on your bill and if it occurs again then i would start to get annoyed.

good luck!

Re: Would this bother you?

In light of everything you said, no, I wouldn't be upset. I agree with Jes, she was probably trying to reach someone and the fact that you said you have basically no cell service in your house -- well that would explain it to me. If I were in that situation I wouldn't think to go outside to use my cell phone, especially because I belong inside cleaning your house.

What would you have thought if your neighbors told you they saw your cleaning lady outside on her cell phone 3 times when she was supposed to be cleaning? kwim?

I would be upset by this! NOT because she used the phone and the minutes, but simply because she did not ask you or tell you about it. Even if she didn't ask you first, she should have said something like "I had to use your phone to make an important call, I hope you don't mind" is all. I'm assuming you never told her she is free to use your phone.

I think what she did is sneaky and would make me wonder what else she might be doing with your personal belongings.
