would it be rude
for me to tell my MIL that I'm not in the mood for company today? I'm due in four days and rather uncomfortable at times. DH went to work this afternoon and won't be home until late. She called him earlier today and wanted to drop off a box of Pampers some time this afternoon or evening. I told him to tell her to hold on to them for now, hoping he'd get the hint that I wasn't in the mood for one of her visits. He knows, as well as I do, that she has nothing to do and is looking for an excuse to hang out at our house, but he's playing it off like what's the big deal she just wants to drop off something. This has happened two other times over the past few weeks. I am dreading her showing up here because she won't just drop the diapers and go she'll want to hang out and complain to me about anything and everything. I just don't have the energy to listen to the nonsense today and he's not around to have to deal with it. She's supposed to call me before she heads over, and I'm contemplating telling her that I'm just not up for company but I know she'll get offended. Damn, why did he have to be an only child

I would just say you were napping when you called. I wouldn't worry about annoying ANYONE right now

I would tell her that you aren't feeling well. Maybe you will feel better tomorrow and will let her know if she can come by tomorrow. I am sure she will understand

Re: would it be rude
I have a relentless MIL too so I know what you must be feeling. It's not rude for you to want to be alone, however I know the type and no matter how nicely you tell her she'll probably still be offended. Right now though you have to think about yourself so just let her know politely that you're not feeling well and you're going to lay down and take a nap for a while, if she wants to she can stop by tomorrow.....If she gets offended even after you explain nicely she'll just ahve to deal...lol XOXOXO BOTB

Re: would it be rude
Thanks girls I'll take that advice. DH just called and asked if she stopped by yet, and I said no and she hasn't called either. He said if I'm not feeling up to it just tell her we'll get them another time. He must be feeling guilty because he knows what a PITA she is

Re: would it be rude
So after all of my worrying she never called or stopped by! I spent the entire afternoon and most of the evening waiting and dreading a phone call and knock at the door that never came. I am glad she didn't but I'm ****** I spent so much time concerning myself with such nonsense.

No, it's not rude for you to tell her no.
My MIL constantly plays the "I have something for the baby" card. It gets really old, really fast.
Tell her the diapers can wait.

Good...I'm glad she didn't come over for your sake. I often play things out in my head and let it take up too much of my time. I have since stopped that.

Re: would it be rude
My feeling is, if you don't put your foot down now, she'll never get the hint after the baby is born. Set up those boundaries before it's too late!
