Would it be rude?
My neighbor likes to have his car stereo playing pretty loudly during the day and especially while my daugher is napping...
Is it rude for me to ask him to turn it down in the middle of the afternoon just when my daugher is napping -or- does he have a right to enjoy his music at anytime during the day?
Opinions please! Thanks

What's the harm in asking, right? I think it's all in the approach.... not rude if you do ask in the most polite "I'm so sorry to bother you" kind of way.

No, I think that if you ask him in a nice way, with a smile and no tone. He will say "sure no problem" I would like to think he would be nice about it..I mean really it's a logical question.

Totally not rude. While he may have the right to enjoy his music, I think you and your DC are entitled to enjoy some silence. I agree with the other ladies . . . it's all in the approach to the neighbor.

Re: Would it be rude?
i wouldn't say it was rude per se, but I would personally not do it. not unless he let the loud music play for a long time

is it just when he's coming and going or is he sitting out front with it on for an extended time?

Re: Would it be rude?
Honestly--I would probably let it slide. I can't stand confrontation. Now if it were late at night or early in the morning, that would be a completely different story. Is he a young kid? He's probably trying to get attention.
Has the music woken DD up at all? Of course, ask me again in 7 months when I have a newborn to tend to, I'm sure my answer will be different!

Re: Would it be rude?
I probably wouldn't confront him directly since I guarantee it will cause conflict no matter how nicely you sy it. Isn't there a noise pollution law wherein one can get a ticket for blaring loud music outside like that?

I don't think I would say anything. It may cause trouble, unless he does this at night after 10

Re: Would it be rude?
I have a neighbor who does this. He does it at night too. Like between 7 and 9, just in time for bed time.
I just stick my head out the window and say "do you mind?" I think the first time he was shocked, but he moved to around the corner and is now more mindful. He definately got the "hint" that I wasn't playing around.
ETA: Wow, I just read the rest of the responses. I guess I'm the only one who would say anything and not be so cozy about it. Come on, it's a matter of respect. He knows you have a little baby...why would he go right in front of your house and blast his music. Sometimes people have to be "reminded" of common sense.

Re: Would it be rude?
you could ask nicely...but its doubtful if he's on the younger side he'd be nice about it and acutally turn it down.. ill confess that im one of the "loud" music listeners with a tricked out stereo and love to max it out ... so far noones asked me to turn it down since we lived here (bought house in august)... but id have to seriously think about it to be completely honest... and yes im a person who was ttc for awhile until i had to take a medical break so i can imagine how a mother would feel... id be livid but its the other way around...
