"word" pronunciation in 1 year old
DS has been saying a few words for a little while now like cracker (ka-ka), the dogs name, dada. I've noticed that when I say "go get your ball!" he calls it "ga" and when he's holding it its "ga!" I know he can make the b sound, he's said it before, but he won't say "bA" only "ga"
Is this considered a "word"?
Thanks
Eta- he's 15 months corrected

Re: "word" pronunciation in 1 year old
DS's speech therapist has told me that as long as kids associate what they are saying to something (labeling an object, for ex) than you can consider that a word so based on that I would say yes, you can count those as words. She tells me all the time that they will eventually develop pronunciation and that each sound will not be learned equally because certain sounds are developmentally too advanced for a 1 year old or a 2 year old but the good thing is that the understanding of language is there and that he is labeling an object to a word.

DD had the same problem with B's and G's. She could say "Baba" no problem, but when she went to say "book" it would come out as "gook". We counted it as a word bc she knew what she was "talking" about.

This sort of sounds like my DS too. He'll say "goon" for balloon. It's so cute.

Perfectly said!
DS didn't pronounce words appropriately until he was almost 4. I loved that, actually.
I always get a little heart broken when he starts saying words the right way
