Women and Military Draft
I just heard on the news that drafting only men is unconstitutional and women may have to start registering.

I agree, it isn't fair women should be drafted just like men if the need be.

I agree as well... but I doubt there will be or at least hope there's not a need for a draft anytime in the near future. I'd like to think there would never be need for it again, but never say never.

Because there was some ruling that came from a lawsuit brought by a men's rights group that it wasn't fair that woman can now fight in combat but can't be drafted. The ruling just happened so it's newsworthy I guess.

Re: Women and Military Draft
I agree with it but are there stipulations for families or single parents? I am not familiar with the Draft. It is a scary concept -"a draft in general regardless of sex".

If we want equality,I doubt it. How many men were drafted who had young children or pregnant wives?

But they weren't single parents. What are you supposed to do with your child if you are a single mom? That is what she was asking.

I was thinking more of the children.. so if a married couple gets drafted, is it tough luck to the kids? If it's a single dad or mom? I feel like alot of kids may be put in foster care, creating a bigger problem. I hear a lot on this forum that people don't have a support system to take a night off to even go to the movies, I can't imagine if you had to go to war with your spouse.
It had nothing to do with being a female.

Honestly, if it came down to putting my kid in foster care, I'd be fleeing to Canada or something.

Sh!t me too, I mean I took my son out of the system - I would never put him back in.

Women and Military Draft
I think you’re focusing on a small subset of individuals though.
What happened to single dads the last time we had a draft? It’s for 18-25 year olds. How many that age have kids? How many at single parents? How many would actually be drafted?

Women and Military Draft
I don’t think a single parent, male or female can be drafted. I have zero faith in the government but even I find it hard to believe that they would be shipping children off to foster care in an already overcrowded system. Yes, I know they enjoy separating children from their parents but I feel like once they started doing it to white kids in Nebraska they’d get some push back.
Anyway, I agree women should be drafted alongside men. Hopefully no one needs to be drafted, man or woman.

Re: Women and Military Draft
Just because you have to register for the draft, or actually get drafted, doesn't mean you will be put into service.
I'm sure there will be exceptions, like the college deferment during Vietnam. Israel has a mandatory draft for both men and women, and they seem to make it work.

this is what i was thinking.
the ruling is interesting and i completely understand it. if women can fight in combat, then logically they should be part of the possibility of a draft.
but i believe that we have reached a point in our history that we have such a large volunteer military that i doubt we will ever need to implement a draft... at least for a good, long time.

I am not focusing on anyone. It was just a general question because I feel like women widened the population for the draft, so I was curious. Also why I stated I am not sure what the rules are.
I know/knew a lot of single women 18-25 and some men. Like 5 in my immediate family alone.

I agree
me too, which, is why I asked if there will be limitations. I can't imagine the last time we had a draft, they were even thinking about single males. So I was wondering if the law will have new stipulations in the draft.

I don't think this came from the President. It was a court case that was ruled on in one state. Nothing more at this point.

Women and Military Draft
If this ever happened there would be a shit ton of 18 to 25-year-old women getting pregnant!

It was a joke. But I really don't care, it will probably not go anywhere. This is probably a distraction tactic at best right now. Other bigger things happening.

Yeah, but why bring the lawsuit? I mean I see they are re-examining the draft system in general but I wonder why now. It's just an odd topic...

I know. It was some "men's rights group". So I don't know if they were just trying to push the envelope or what ....

Am I the only one who finds the idea of a “men’s rights group” absolutely hilarious and wonder what kind of misogynist SOBs join something like this? Please men, do tell me when us women infringed upon your rights.
