After hiring the people to help us - lawyer, acct, planner then My plan:
1. I'd have the planner create pay off remaining debt (if it makes sense -- student loans) create trusts of equal amts $$$$$$$$$$ for each parent, sibling, niece & nephew...then give each aunt/uncle/cousin & real friend that has ever been supportive in my life $$$
2. finish the school year & then resign with the intention of volunteering weekly to work with some of my former students
3. go on an actual vacation during school breaks (can't afford to do so now) & short trips on weekends to see the world and culture our children
My husband's plan:
1. don't tell anyone
2. don't give anyone anything
3. buy an island away from anyone and live life

-give money to family, charities that are close to our hearts, and to our church
-buy a beautiful piece of land and build my dream home
-travel as much as I can
-DH would like to open up a no kill animal shelter, while I would like to start an interior design company

With the Powerball at 500 million...
The very first thing I would do is donate a very large amount to St. Jude and remain anonymous in doing so. I would set up trust funds for my nieces, nephews. Invest and help poor or those people struggling but directly not thru charities. I dont trust many charities

1. Call an accountant followed by my financial advisor. Probably invest in triple tax free bonds and live off the interest.
2. Create trusts for certain people.
3. Be a philanthropist. Work for deserving charities. Do something that makes a positive difference in somebody's life.
4. I love my house. I don't know that I would move but I would add the bells and whistles I've always wanted. Travel. Hire a personal chef and Shaun T. so I can be skinny.

I'd build my aunt a new home.. but not a new house in a new place.. I'd tear down her home.. and build a new one right where she is now. She loves her home, her area, her place. Lived there 50+ years. So I'd build her a new home RIGHT there. Or if she was up for it, buy her a home near me so she'd see AJ every day.

We never play lotto but a nearly a billion we've jumped on the band wagon.
First thing I'd do is pass out I'm sure.
Once I came to I would get us a good attorney and financial advisor.
After that
I would pay off all my loved ones debts and plan a kick ass vacation for our entire family and friends.
After that who knows but I would do a lot of good with they money.

All that money, I am not worried about getting it all invested right away. First 3 things are just going to be pure, indulgent fun. Even if you blew through half of it you'd still be sitting pretty for the rest of your life and your kids' lives (and then some).
1.Grab my entire immediate family and take a plane to somewhere warm with lots of drinks for a good few weeks
2. Buy my dream house on Nantucket (or better yet get it built from scratch)
3. Buy a yacht
Then I'd worry about the boring practical stuff.

I'll be honest I wouldn't want to win this powerball for the following reasons:
1. I believe in NY you have to disclose your identity. I wouldn't want anyone to know I won. Too many leeches and scammers and criminals out there
2. Its $2 a game. Lotto is $1 a game (twice the chance to win) - I would prefer to just wait until lotto gets to around 10 or 20 million and win that. A few million in my pocket is more than enough to set us up.
I wouldn't quit my job - but I would have a "take no crap" attitude. I'll speak up in meetings and let them know they are being entitled jerks, etc.
Of course these are all dreams since the chance of winning is so low...

Once I made sure I actually won, we'd only tell very few people (though everyone would find out anyway it seems). We'd quit our jobs asap (though dh says he'd finish out the school year but I think he'd change his mind about that lol). Talk to somebody who is knowledgeable about what to do with all that money. Move into a huge house, hire a chef, nanny, and housekeeper. Buy a house someplace warm to live during the winter. Travel to all the places we want to see! Donate to causes that are important to us & those in need. Share with all the people we are close with. Do whatever we want. Have as many kids as we can. Just enjoy life!!!!

Move into a huge house with a dream kitchen and so forth. Or maybe into one of those crazy penthouse apartments in Manhattan or a brownstone in Brooklyn. I'd put accounts together for my nephews for college and a few other accounts to make sure there is money for my future child's (or children's) college. Travel. I think I would still work (though would probably quit and volunteer for my job, since I work at a non-profit) and I would either hire a full time driver or just take an uber everywhere so I didn't have to take the subway anymore!
