Winter Coat Question

My dd is 15 months and Im just wondering what you guys put your toddlers in for winter. Im looking at regular winter coats, that's what I would put her in right? Like a puffer jacket right? Do I need anything else? Do I need snow pants? Snow Suit? anything like that?

Puffy jackets are not recommended bc of the car seat. It can compromise how the straps are tightened.

We put DS in a heavier hoody that has a fleece lining usually. He's almost always getting in to a warm car, so it's just the walk to/from the car.

I do a puffer coat and snowpants for playing outside in the show.

For in the car, I will do several light layers (onesie, LS shirt, fleece).

You should not use a puffer coat in a carseat. We usually get a northface or lands end fleece. We only use the puffer for playing in the snow.

Puffer for being outside (walks, park, shopping, snow, etc.)

Layers for car (with a fleece).

I don't think a fleece is sufficient for walking to grocery store from parking lot. I put the coat in the car & stick kid in coat as we get out of car.

DS has always had a winter coat. Puffy, ski etc. I take it off when we get into the car so I can strap him into his car seat. I warm the car 1st. I live in Queens with street parking. Sometimes I have to park not too close to my house. If I'm alone I can't drop him off 1st so he needs a warm coat.

Patagonia or lands end coats not bulky or puffy at all which is what I like especially with the car seat

I like the gap warmest jacket. Carter's and the North Face also make nice winter coats too. As for a snow suit, I think it depends upon how active you are going to be with your DC. While I did get each of my kids a snow suit, neither of them really liked being in the snow until they could actually stand and run in it which was about when they were three years old. If you plan on only keeping them in the stroller then I am not sure you will need a snow suit. Also remember for the car seat - dress them in layers. I have polar fleece sweatshirts and blankets at that age for the car seat. Large puffer type coats can compress in car seats. Regardless of what you put your DC in remember to adjust the shoulder harness to fit them.

I am going to get a 3 in 1 coat again this year. He wears the fleece layer in the car and I will put the outer layer on if we are going to be outside for more than just a quick run into the car.

Nothing puffy at all in the car seat.
I got DD the Lands End Squall jacket and it's great.
Thin enough for the car seat, yet super insulated and warm.
It is rated to -5 degrees. I doubt we get much colder than that.
No need for anything puffy

I used the Carters 3 in 1 coat for DD last year. It has layers...but I usually took out the inner fleece layer and just used the warm outside layer. It was not puffy and it fit nicely in the car seat. If it was really cold, I used both layers.
