will this child ever nap willingly!!???!!!

DD goes to sleep on her own at night but nap time is horrendous!
CIO didn't work for naps.
I usually drive her around to fall asleep & it's such a bad habit that I'd like to get out of.
Also, she is 1 so it's time for the big girl car seat (she's kinda tiny so we got away with keeping her in it.)
Is there any hope that some day she will nap on her own?
I feel like I've tried everyhting & I don't know what else to do to train her to nap.
She still needs 2 naps because when she doesn't take a morning nap she is so miserable by lunch that she wont eat, gets over tired & cranky & still doesn't want to sleep.
Help

I remember that reading the Healthy Sleep habits book (can't remember the exact name, sorry) helped when I had nap troubles. I followed the tips and had a great napper until this weekChat Icon and he's 34 months today.

It could be timing that's an issue. Try putting her down before you think she's tired.

Maybe cut it down to one nap right after lunch. DS never fell asleep on his own. His almost 2 and we still lay in my bed together and read books and talk until he falls asleep. Try some down time together and see if it works

Having a consistent routine really helped us. It was a very hard first week (might have been two), but I stuck to it and pretty much didn't leave the house. I put her in her sleep sack, sang her a song, and rocked her in the glider with the sound machine on. As she was falling asleep, I'd put her in her crib. If she started crying, I'd soothe her, rock her some more, sing to her more, and try again. Eventually she'd be so exhausted she'd sleep. After days and days of this (3 times a day! She was 5 months old), the amount of time I needed to "prep" her for her naps got shorter. Now at 11m, I put her in the sleep sack, sing her one song in the glider, put her in the crib awake, and she plays with her stuffed animals for a few minutes and falls asleep on her own.

So yeah, it was a baaaaaaad time training her, but really 8 or 9 bad days for 6 months of good naps has been totally worth it!

ETA: We used CIO really successfully for her at night, but it just didn't work for naps. She'd scream her head off and never fall asleep. We had to do it the opposite way for naps.

some children NEVER nap willingly and will do it when they are good and ready. my DD did not nap at all, and now at the age of 3 if she is tired she passes out. i HATE the fact that she naps, but it is what it is....

stop trying to force them, if she gets cranky her body will adjust

My DD was a horrible napper too and CIO did not work (even though itworked at night). I used to drive her around and plan my errands around her naptime so she would nap in the car. I got tired of that so quickly. Then one day we were playing in her room and she was acting sleepy and i asked her if she wanted to take a nap and she shook her head yes. So I put her down in her crib and she went right to sleep. I couldnt believe it! And she's been napping in her crib ever since. She's 12.5 months now and this was only like 2 or 3 months ago. I really think she was just ready to do it on her own. I couldnt force her to do it, she had to do it on her own.

This gives me so much hope! I would love if DD did this!
I guess you & pp are right, I have to stop forcing it.
I do feel like I am torturing her when I drive around for 45mins until she falls asleep out of pure boardm .
