Re: Will be ttc in June
good luck! I would say, write down when AF comes and for how long every month until June so you have an idea of how many days are in your cycle

Good luck! It couldn't hurt to start taking prenatal vitamins early. Plus, if you're currently taking birth control pills you may want to stop a few months before June because it can take a while for your cycles to regulate. I really wish I had done that.

Re: Will be ttc in June
I stopped the pill in July I knew I wanted to start this summer so I figured I would give my system a year to regulate

your ob/gyn more than likely will tell you to take them; i've never heard of any who didn't. if you're on another type of vitamin, you could mention that to your dr and see if maybe the prenatals could take the place of that, so you're not "overdoing it" if that's your concern. there are certain vitamins in the prenatal though, that you won't find in another vitamin - that helps the babies growth (brain etc) in it's first two weeks - and you want to give bambino every chance at healthiness!!

I will be TTC with you in June! Def track your AF monthly. Also prenatals are a good idea. Remember, they are not necessarily for the babies- Our bodies supply the baby with everything it needs. Our systems, on the other hand, can be depleted of many important nutrients and minerals from pregnancy so to avoid osteo issues in the future, prenatal vitamins provide protection. Good luck planning!

I agree. I asked my ob/gyn if I could continue to take a multi with a folic acid supplement and she said that multis have more vitamin A than appropriate for the baby.

Really? Cause my GYN told me prenatals weren't necessary until I get a BFP! I was told to take my multi as normal and add a folic acid supplement, but I already had been taking the folic acid, so I was right on track!

I thought the OP meant she didn't want to take prenatals at all. That's fine then. I was taking a multi with extra folic pill until my multi ran out. Then I just bought a prenatal. Since I was already taking a prenatal she said I should continue.

Re: Will be ttc in June
If you haven't already, get in an exercise/healthy eating routine, and quit smoking if you do.
It's recommended that you begin prenatals about 3 months before you TTC but if you wait until you actually start TTC you are fine too. But folic acid is VERY important, it cuts the risk of spina bifida down by 90% or something ridiculous like that.

Re: Will be ttc in June
You want your prenatal. It does not matter what mom or MIL did.
At least you want folic acid. MINIMUM of 400mg. It prevents a lot of preventable birth defects.
I think your first step is to get your annual check up. Talk to your OB about TTC. They will guide in what to do, bloodwork if needed, prenatals, etc.. Talk about your concerns, etc...
