why use name brand paint?

Help me out with this - what are some reasons to use, say, Benjamin Moore instead of Home Depot generic brand? There must be a difference, right?

Re: why use name brand paint?

I've used Behr many times without any problems at all and then I had a couple of really bad experiences. I think it may have had to do with paint batches. Having been burned a few times and not wanting to re-do, I talked to a painter friend and he said the same thing - it's hit or miss with Behr. He recommended Benjamin Moore and I have to say I noticed a real difference. It went on a lot smoother and easier and, so far, no issues.

Sometimes they have coupons, which makes the price almost the same... And it's worth it for me not to have to redo a room until I want to....

Haven't worked with any other brands, so that's my 2 cents!

Re: why use name brand paint?

I have used home depot paint and I find the paint adheres and paints better (BM) That is just my opinion...but I haved used both and I prefer BM. BUt I know people who have used home depot paint I feel it is fine. Whatever you want to use is fine.

Re: why use name brand paint?

We just painted our whole house with Lowes paint, Olympic and Valspar, both were great, went on easy and looks fantastic, why pay more?

My DH does the painting and according to him there is a big difference in the way BM handles, covers & wears. We used Valspar in our bedroom & den and can't wait to repaint them. My livingroom is BM from 5.5 years ago and looks perfect.

We always used Behr's from Home Depot and I always wondered the same thing. So we decided to try BM for a small room to see what was so great about it. Well, I will NEVER use anything else ever again. BM goes on so much more evenly. It doesn't drip and it covers so well. It was just so much easier to use.

There is definitely a difference. I think with paint, you do get what you pay for.
However, out of the "name" brands, I think Sherwin Williams Duration is the best paint.

Re: why use name brand paint?

For me, it was completely color based this time around I've used lots of different paint brands and had pretty good experiences with them all. BM just has the most color options that we liked. Since I know it's a good product, I don't mind paying for it.

We started with Behr, but kept hearing about how great BM was. So we went and bought BM Aura - It is awesome! It is expensive, but it goes on so well, it doesn't even need primer.

We have one coat on our living room wall and people thnk it's done. I'll never use Behr again - it didn't cover well, and it just went on badly.

Used Behr's before. Hated it. Had to do 5 coats in addition to the primer.

Used BM, love it.

I have used BM and thought it was good...and my house is being painted as I type this with Sherwin Williams and what I see so far looks good as well....I honestly can't tell a difference. Also I noticed there were some very similar colors as BM...one in particular that I am using now is Navajo White....

Re: why use name brand paint?

coverage....but for the most part people put 2 coats on anyway so it really dosen't matter. I used cheap paint in my house and you can't tell the difference becaus ewe planned on using 2 coats anyway. If you're doing a red color I would upgrade to a better brand. Red is tricky and the better coverage is helpful
