Why is my child so breakable?!

When my DD was born the doctors had to break her collarbone to get her out of me bc she was literally stuck. It was an awful, scary situation. Thankfully she healed amazingly and you would never know.

When she was 15 months old, she barely tripped over her own two feet and fractured her ankle.

Daycare just called and she was running to a classmate in excitement and fell down and cracked her front tooth. I am so upset. We are going to see a ped dentist at 2:45 to see what the damage is but I feel like she breaks too easy!

Is this normal? I actually asked her ped once before and they said kids are kids but is that really true? I hope my poor baby doesn't lose her front tooth, not to mention we have never been to the dentist (she is only 21 months) so I am sure this is going to be an adventure =(

ETA: She's not even a rambunctious kid!!!

I'm so sorry for your DD!

I feel like some kids are just more unlucky than others when it comes to this stuff. My DD, for example - this is kid is constantly bruised, scrapped, falling on the ground. She too cracked her front tooth at daycare when she was about 20/21 month old. She randomly fell over at my cousin's apt last summer, header into his coffee table, requiring EIGHT stitches in her forehead (I saw her skull, I never want to see it again).

Even still, she's just over 3 and we get a note home from daycare almost everyday about how she tripped over the rug and hit her head on the bookshelf, or she was running outside and tripped over her feet and scrapped her knees. Her teacher said she wishes she could wrap her in bubble wrap.

I don't think she's rambunctious either, she's just exceptionally clumsy. I hope you DD's tooth is ok!!

My dd is a klutz. She chipped her front tooth sometime after her 2nd bday. She is covered with bruises. Right now she is sporting a black eye from walking into the car door.

I was the same way and still am to a certain extent.

Oh no! Your poor dd!

Apparently my DH was like that growing up. Always something needing to be mended. He's a healthy man now :)

I think some kids are just accident prone.

My DD is such a clumbsy girl.

I posted something similar a few months back.

She has had stitches in her chin (same spot) 3 times and stitches in her head once.
After the 3rd time in her chin I was terrified they were gonna call CPS on me.
The plastic surgeon looks at my boys when we go to follow up appointments and is shocked he hasn't had to stitch them yet because they are the more WILD of all 3 kids
Every incident is a freak accident.

Hope your DD gets better soon.

Why is my child so breakable?!

Thanks so much for the support ladies. Poor DD lost an entire piece of her front tooth and we still don't even know how it happened bc she didn't cry or bleed or anything.

We took her to the dentist and thankfully so far it doesn't look like their is nerve damage or anything permanent. We just have to keep watching it bc it could easily get a cavity or have some problems bc the leftover tooth is so exposed. She was pretty good at the dentist and thank god for my DH who was so calm bc I couldnt even be in the room during her xrays bc I am pregnant.

We went to Broadway Smile in Massapequa and they were absolutely amazing fitting in a new patient on a Friday afternoon!
I am sad how the tooth looks but at least it is just a baby tooth and as long as there is no major issues I am very grateful for that.

Why is my child so breakable?!

Welcome to my world.........

If I don't get a call from the school weekly its because it's raining and they didn't go outside. LOL. She's CONSTANTLY walking into things, running into people, objections etc. Once she rolled into a kicking foot. who does that?

If it makes you feel better, on her 5th birthday she saw the doctor and she was all bruised up like normal and the doc was checking her out. He said "these are nice to see. All these bruises mean you play a lot, yes?" and she nodded. He said bruises and scrapes on kids means they are learning their own physical limits. As long as they aren't having trouble walking or running it's fine. My god you should have seen my daughter's face.. she LIT UP! Cuts, scrapes and bruises are GOOD? haha. At pre-k she fell really hard on a wooden floor and slid into something and it cut her chin under her lip, she still has the scar.

I have 7 girl scouts. They once sat in at circle time and compared scars and stories! We were talking about accepting people for who they were and not what they saw (one girl has an eyelid that droops significantly) and somehow that turned into a scar boasting discussion. The one girl without a scar felt left out! I said "give it time my dear" She got hers this winter.. forehead met a stone.. cracked her open at the hair line.

And now you see why I frown when I hear that stupid adage "boys will be boys" or "You know how boys are" ... Oh really? Have you MET my daughter?!

Re: Why is my child so breakable?!

Sounds like my son. We have been in the ER with him more times than I can count....I literally lost count. Broke his first bone at 18 months and was in a cast, chipped his front tooth at about 22months, stitches at 3.5, broken collarbone at 4, had to call an ambulance at 6 bc he was choking (which thankfully cleared.) He is just SUPER active and is always running and for him, just unlucky and these things happen.

Re: Why is my child so breakable?!

I think some people are just like that -
My BIL has had more accidents, more broken bones, has more hardware in his body than anyone I know .......
He and DH grew up in the same house, same sports, etc ........DH is the opposite.
My SIL is somewhere in the middle.
