Why does it cost more to fly than to cruise?
I'm starting to see why the cruise industry is becoming so popular now after researching a trip to the Bahamas...
It cost over $700/pp just to fly down to the Bahamas! Meanwhile, the cost for a cruise (that includes meals and multiple destinations) cost just $700-1000/pp depending on the view you get.
I did a quick calculation and the cost for a 4 nite vacation to the Bahamas will cost at least $4000 (:P) while an 8 nite cruise for us will cost under $3k... provided we stay away from the bars and gambling tables. :D

I love cruising, for so many reasons, but especially because I feel it's a great value. All your entertainment on board is free, you can't do better for meals, the rooms are great, you go to different islands and there is so much to do..or not, if that's what you want.
Considering my DH has a bottomless pit for a stomach, we do very well!

I love cruising for this very reason. You get to see different islands/countries and get a flavor for what they are about. The food, drinks and gambiling is great too.
Our next cruise we want to go to is Mexico. We've never been. There are different areas we would like to see without spending an arm and a leg to do so. And cruising is the best option. Especially with two little ones.

Cruises don't charge much for room and board because they're hoping you'll come on and spend a ton of money on drinks, gambling, upgraded food, excursions, etc. Airlines don't have a comprable way to make extra money...

besdies the fact that most cruise lines are not registered in the US and don't pay federal taxes.
I will never ever ever take a carnival cruise.

One of my co-workers said the same thing - she complained that the ships weren't clean (then again, she took a cruise that had a high percentage of college 'Spring Break' kids so there was a sense of rowdy-ness to the ship), the layout was dumb (common areas constantly packed, buffet lines were crazy long), also quality of the food and choices weren't as plentiful/better as the other cruises she went on (Royal Caribbean).
I think its a matter of taste - the reviews on CruiseCritic.com about Carnival however confirms a lot of the above.
