Why does a NB's pooping "schedule" change?

Is it because their digestive systems are more mature?

Sasha pooped CONSTANTLY. Always a ton of poop in her diaper. Today, she had her first real poop at 5:00PM, since last night!

She also hasn't really had poop when she wakes up in the AM in the last 5 days or so.

This seems to coincide with her sleeping through the night, and dropping the middle of the night feeding.

Samantha's changed as well. This afternoon was the first poop she's had since Friday! I believe as their digestive system matures, they need to poop less and less. This change in Samantha's bowel movements started last week. She goes either every other day now, or a day longer than that.

Totally natural but it's hard not to get nervous. DS just started cereal and he's pooping less now. He never pooped a lot to begin with but I've been assured it's completely normal.

They are a constant mystery these children of ours!

The lovely thing is now that she only goes every few days her poop really smells Chat Icon

I know BF babies don't poop as often because their bodies tend to use almost all of the rbeastmilk and therefore have less waste

Sasha totally disproves that theory!

i read that a normal size nb poop is the size of a quarter. a quarter is one of sasha's farts.

Ha, that's funny! My DD also! She poops a ton at this point, but I have noticed that it's not every single diaper change like it was before. Now it's just a few times a day. I know it's normal as they get older for them to poop less. Think about it- you don't poop 17 times a day, right?Chat Icon

Re: Why does a NB's pooping "schedule" change?

I was going to ask the same thing. DS would poop 3-4 times a day in the first week. Now he goes once a day and it seems like he struggles. I was wondering if this was normal.
