Why are certain cities so expensive to fly into?
My brother is moving to Cincinnati soon for a new job he is going to take, I wanted to try and visit him over a weekend in the fall but I am seeing that all tickets are around $400 plus per person! Crazy that I could fly to Florida for so much less... just weird to me... anyway, anyone know any sites that I should be checking to try to get lower rates? TIA!

My thinking is supply and demand.... I would think there are a ton more flights into Florida than Cincinnati... I could be wrong lol. I would check skyscanner. It keeps track of flights and alerts you if they go up and down

Ohio is extremely expensive! My bf flies a lot for work and he says on avg his airfare is approx $900 to Ohio. I'd say most flights to Ohio are for business purposes and the airlines know this and basically have you by the balllls

A lot of airlines are reducing flights to smaller cities so the prices are insane. Cincinnati has always been pricey though since it was a Delta hub - it would be cheaper to connect through there and go elsewhere than it would be to fly there. I don't think it's a hub anymore though.
My cousin just moved there as well and my aunt and uncle were complaining about the price of tickets.
I have friends in Columbus and it's insane to fly there these days!!! The weekday flights are ridiculous since it's mostly Chase employees (and since the company pays for it)...

Pretty much any small city is going to be more expensive then a larger one because of volume. Less flights, less passengers, more expensive tickets.

One of my travel agent friends told me it has to do with airport taxes/landing fees.

Thanks all- it really stinks! I even tried looking at airports that were within an hour or so drive like Dayton, Columbus, Louisville, Indianapolis, all very expensive. I guess you are right- they have you by the balls!
