WHY
Do sellers like to write that a INGROUND pool is a "gift"...
1. we will be paying the higher taxes on the property because of it 2. we will have to maintain it $$$$ 3. are you really going to get rid of it?
Gift....
Can i have the receipt?

Re: WHY
I think that means something in realtor talk, although I cant recall what it means - like when they say "possible m/d" its already a m/d...

Re: WHY
I think its so they're not responsible for it, should something be wrong during the inspection, etc. Its not considered to be part of the transaction, you're not buying it - its just a gift, so don't complain about it kinda thing...
its dumb.

Re: WHY
I thought that they mean that it's not in great shape and needs repairs - gift being you get it in bad shape - as is - without them doing the repairs.

Re: WHY
Our buyers agent told us that it is written in as a gift so that they can give it to you in any condition, they will not fix it, provide any warranty, and also do not have to provide a CO for it.

Then why buy a house with an IGP of all things
At least an above ground you can remove.

Let me also add that...
4. your homeowners insurance will be a LOT more with a pool in your back yard

Re: WHY
If the listing said IGP I didn't even consider looking any further. It was one of my must-have-nots.

Re: WHY
i believe if the pool is a gift, that means they did not get the legl permits for it...basically it is illegal..although i never had that happen with an igp only above ground...

Re: WHY
I am buying a house with an igp (which is completely fenced in) & they are selling it as is (basically same thing as gift). The pool has the proper C/os they are just not going to put money into escrow in case the pool doesn't work when you go to start it up in the spring/summer.

Re: WHY
I feel like all of the "gifts" a seller gives you are not really gifts. To me, the broken down shed in the backyard of the house we are buying is not really a "gift" either but I am sure they would consider it one!!! The house we are buying also has an IGP which was not listed as a "gift" but we want a pool so it's no bid deal. I also wonder if the broken down swing set we are getting is also a gift????

I am not....
But at this point... what is MOST imporant to me is the house. When looking at potential houses on MLS or other sites if i think the house is worth it i will go look regardless of the igp BUT if i love the house and it has a igp...well i am going to buy the house...
I PREFER no pool though

ditto!.. IMO, a pool is only good for 3 months out of the year, the rest of the time is a liability and burden... .. if one day I can afford a mansion, and have a pool boy, I wouldn't mind having one
