Whooping Cough Vaccination
I just got off the phone with maternity at Huntington Hospital where I am delivering. They said they do vaccinate the mother for Whooping Cough after delivery but not the dad. He would have to get it done at his physician. How necessary is this? Should I make sure that DH gets the vaccine too?

Re: Whoping Cough Vaccination
very necessary- because whooping cough can look like a cough to an adult but be deadly to an infant
have him go to to his primary doctor to get the DTAP or go to the dolan center and they will give it there

Re: Whoping Cough Vaccination
I was wondering...since it's important to have DH vaccinated, what about anyone else that comes in to close contact with the baby?
For example - the grandparents?

Re: Whoping Cough Vaccination
All hospitals are recommending it because of the increase in pertussis cases. But before you get the vaccine, you can always have titer done to check your immunity first.

I read online anyone coming into contact with the child should technically be vaccinated... but then again, we can't police everyone walking in through the door.

My mother, stepfather, sister and grandmother are all going to get one. DH too. I have to talk to him about getting his parents to go. I hope they will.

Does DH need to make an appointment at the Dolan Center? Can he just go over there when I am in the hospital?

Re: Whooping Cough Vaccination
i believe you need an appointment - just google it and it will come up - and you can call for an appointment- he can get the shot when ever - so i would recomend doing it soon while you have more free time. once the baby comes he will want to be at the hosptial with you

My dad's doctor just gave him the vaccination. My dad didn't even ask just told him I was pregnant. Not sure how to bring it up to the ILs though.
